I posted this in another thread but I think it's an important bit of info that deserves it's own thread...

"Five of Miami’s first six drafted players -- James, Landry, Turner, tight end Arthur Lynch and linebacker Jordan Tripp -- were team captains for their respective colleges. That was not a coincidence. Hickey made it a point to acquire natural leaders to place in Miami’s locker room. The Dolphins are putting a heavy emphasis on character at the top of this draft..."

Yes, that was mentioned on several of the picks, which could definitely help in the locker room and on the field but still got to have enough talent also or not sure how many wins it translates into to.

I don't know if it translates into wins this year, but if it sets a good long term tone, we could see the benefits down the road. I'd rather our guys were spending more time in the weight room than the nudie bar.

You can't put Chiefs all over the locker room. You gotta put men that are willing to follow.

I know I for ome have had enough with low character players.

Ireland created a mess beyond belief here. And it got exposed once Sparano and his staff were no longer here to hide all the nonsense for him.

Were finally starting to turn a page on that chapter.

Leadership is not an easy quantifiable trait. Just because a player is named team captain doesn't mean he is some tremendous leader.

And yet another point of comparison between this draft and our 2010 class. There was a large focus on character then as well, with us going after leaders at the expense of talent(AJ Edds leadership didnt come in handy when he was cut).

Its hilarious how myopic Philbin's views are when it comes to our players while, at that same exact time, he lets his coaches do apparently anything they want. Scandal erupts and assistant coach lies to his face? Assistant coach then lies to the investigators his bosses agreed to? Eh, dont worry about all of that, go ahead and collect the entirety of your contract.
And, of course, that doesnt even get into how generally terrible he(and Sherman) were at their jobs. As long as your a coach, Philbin will fight his ass off for you. Player? Better keep your bags packed, theres no 3 strike rule here. You know, except for one case...

...Mike Pouncey. All this rings a bit hollow after giving the biggest remaining headcase on the roster a contract extension last week.

Philbin better win quick and often, because if he doesnt i can see this locker room throwing on the towel with him. Why bother? He doesnt fight for his guys, he lectures them and slaps them down. He doesnt accept guys and integrates wildly divergent personalities into a collective group, he judges them and throws them out. Im convinced some of the players are already going through the motions just for the paychecks(Mike Wallace heads that list), its only a matter of time before they stop caring all together.

I think it's just something new for him, players with serious character flaws coming in from the NFL. I don't think Philbin Wants to be the school principal slapping wrists with a ruler, I think he pretty much Had to be. Ireland brought bad apples, one after another, and it was probably shocking for Philbin knowing these were the kinds of players he was getting. Could have been a very different atmosphere back in Green Bay.

He obviously over-invested in his first coaching staff, which I could see being a first time coach, you want to build that trust with as little pressure on the relationships as possible. But that's not how it works in the NFL, everyone needs to be graded in real-time, and clearly Philbin understands that better now, or if he doesn't, he at least knows Ross is demanding it.
