In a season in which he set a new NFL record for rushing touchdowns, LaDainian Tomlinson “scored†yet again when he was overwhelmingly voted the league’s Most Valuable Player.
Tomlinson received 44 of a possible 50 votes for MVP honors, easily outdistancing Drew Brees and Peyton Manning, who received 4 and 2 votes, respectively.
Among the highlights of L.T.’s season, he accrued league highs in rushing yards (1,815), rushing touchdowns (28) and total touchdowns (31). Tomlinson rushed for 100 or more yards 10 times, and scored two or more TDs in a game 10 times, as well.
As important as any other factor, LaDainian carried the Chargers during a season in which the team made a transition from Drew Brees to the less experienced Philip Rivers at quarterback. Under circumstances such as these, it is that much more remarkable that the Chargers were able to complete the regular season with a franchise best 14-2 record.
Tomlinson is the first Charger to EVER win the NFL’s MVP award.
Congratulations to LaDainian, and his teammates, on this well-deserved honor.
