The word coming out of Pittsburgh is that Batch is going to be released so the Steelers can get another LB active for this Sunday. They have 3 LBs who are hurting and want to add another to the active roster.

Cry against Batch, but he looked light years better then anything on the 'fin roster. They hope to pick him back up next week, but thats only if other teams dont snag him.

Steelers | Batch Cut - Temporarily
Sat, 10 Sep 2005 20:24:25 -0700

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Pittsburgh Steelers have released QB Charlie Batch, but only temporarily. He was one of several vested veterans league wide who were released Saturday, Sept. 10, for salary cap and payroll purposes. Under terms of the collective bargaining agreement, a vested veteran, a player with four or more seasons accrued toward the NFL pension plan, is guaranteed his full base salary for the year if he is on an opening-day roster. To avoid the guarantee, teams often release fringe vested players before the start of the season, then re-sign them after the opener. He is expected to be re-signed next week.

Im from the burgh and Charlie Batch is from West Homestead area which is like 10 miles from where im from. Now im living in Miami and I like Batch but I dont think hes playing as well as Frerrote. Ive watched him most of the preseason and yes he moved the steelers but most of that came off of the legs of Fast Willie Parker and Verron Haynes

No, no,no,no,no, no NO!!!! Don't even think about him!!!

He is better then Gus or AJ. But Im not saying he is "the" answer.

the guy sucks, I remember watching him play along time ago for Detroit, don't even think about it.

As much as we may all want a better quarterback leading this team, lets keep things in perspective. There is not one third string quarterback on any roster that is better than either Gus or AJ ( I'm not sold on Sage yet). Our QB situation is set for now. Perhaps a second stringer will come in at some point but give up the talk of third stringers coming in

hell no just wait until the draft 06

Obviously a move like this would have no impact on the '06 draft. Well except for the chance to win more games this year, which would affect the draft positioning.

I don't know about better than Gus cause he has not proven jack and same goes for Gussy and Feeley.
Even if I'm a Feeley supporter, I have to admit that Gussy has a very strong arm and he is just not accurate. If Gussy was accurate and on target, we would be winning a lot of games with little help from the defense...

I'm keeping an eye on Batch, I have never really had anything against him...and I like QBs with potential that have sat the bench for a while because those guys are the kind of guys that have late-career revivals. Batch showed a lot of promise early in his career in Detroit.

I view the bench as time for these QBs to get ripe for breakout years.

nice lets keep bringing new threads about trash.

06 is where our qb comes from.

vince young looked damn good today vs ohio state.

Not to me he didn't. He can't get away with the kind of playground ball that Vick can get away with because his feet aren't in the same league as Vick's, and he doesn't have the mechanics, polish, or awareness of Donovan McNabb. He's got a live arm, but not quite as strong as the stronger arms in the NFL...and that sidearm delivery DOES seem to be hurting him somewhat in the accuracy and consistency department (whereas, for instance, Omar Jacobs' delivery is not hurting him).

Until the final preseason game, everyone around here thought Gus and AJ were tied for being equal pieces of poop. Then AJ imploded the final game and now Gus is good because he went 2 of 3 for 10 yards? No way.

AJ 38/71 (53%) for 336 1TD 2 Int (4 games) 4.7 yards per attempt
Gus 35/77 (45%) for 394 1TD 1Int(4 games) 5.1 yards per attempt
CB 27/48 (56%) for 329 1TD,1Int (3 games) 6.9 yards per attempt

If he is making a minumum salary and we have tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum at QB, why on earth would you not take a look-see? Everyone saw both Gus and AJ look like pure (insert derogatory expletetive here) in the preseason. Im not sure why you would just want to ignore the opportunity all together. If you were subjected to any of the Pittsburgh games, you will have noticed he actually looked quite good. In his games Vs Carolina and Philly, he performed much better then AJ or Gus has in the preseason. He actually looked like a real QB.

Im just discussing '05. A draft pick in '06 is a discussion for another thread and another year.
