Anyone see that headline? "Chiefs Contact Dolphins about Dealing RB Larry Johnson"..more likely should have read, "Chiefs Contact Dolphins about Looting Their Defense and Draft Picks for Third String RB"
Doesn't look like any of the trades we made over the last month or two have been any good, in the way that four hurricanes hitting Florida wasn't any good. Anyone see Ogun's stats this AM? There was a lot of controversy about him in the offseason, I hope people see now HE DIDN'T JUST BENEFIT FROM PLAYING OPPOSITE JASON TAYLOR! True, his efforts would have been wasted on this team, this year, but he's a young guy with a lot of good years in front of him. We traded him for Booker and Gordon..neither of whom have made any kind of impact, though given the state of our O-line the most charitable thing to say is that the jury is still out.
The thing is, this is what happens when we trade having lost the initiative, ie the option to choose the time and venue to trade. To trade for another third string player, giving up rare, quality defensive players or picks, would be foolish. It seems every team in the league knows we are hard up now and sees the opportunity to fleece us for some quality players in return for their detritus

This is really hard to deal with.Ive never seen the dolphins suck like this.We better not make any more stupid A$$ trades.Wanny and Rick have already traded away way to much and have gotten way to little in return.Feeley for a 2nd pick? What the hell was that about?I liked what rick did in the draft, but at this rate we wont have any picks next year.Wanny needs to be fired.i hate to say this but, we look worse then some high school teams ive seen play. This is by far the worst Dolphins team i have ever seen.ive been a fan for 30 years and its never even been close to this bad.I live in Ohio and i have Bengals fans harrasin me.Bengals fans?Come on can it get any worse.Rick dont make this trade please.your only going to make things worse.

Was unfamiliar with the word "detritus"

[n] loose material (stone fragments and silt etc) that is worn away from rocks
[n] the remains of something that has been destroyed or broken up

Also, "waste of any kind; debris"

Id Trade Freeman for Johnson straight up.

But NO MORE DRAFT PICKS...

That would make some sense.Trade a couple of underachieving malcontents straight up but unfortunately the talk is that we have to give up a 3rd pick in 2006 as well. The next FO to come in will find a bare cupboard which means it will take longer to get back to respectability.

Wannstedt and Spielman will probably trade Z. Thomas, Surtain, Madison and a No.1 pick for Johnson.....

Ogunleye DID benefit from playing opposite Taylor. I watched the entire Vikings/Bear game yesterday. In the beginning of the game, the announcers mentioned that the Bears were getting tired of waiting for Ogunleye to make an impact.

The Vikings regular RT is out for the season and they were starting a back up. Ogunleye got by him once and knocked the ball out of his Culpepper's hands. They credited him with a sack, the other sack was questionable as he chased Culpepper out of bounds after a scramble , there was no loss of yardage on the play.

Late in the first quarter, the Vikings replaced the back up with another back up, Nat Dorsey, a 4th round pick this year. Dorsey shut out Ogunleye the rest of the game. He was not in on one play the rest of the game and never came close to getting by Dorsey.

Shut out by a 4th rounder! Yeah, I think he benefitted playing behind Taylor, not to mention, I wouldn't want to be paying him the money he is getting.

hmmm, with all this talk of us sending Freeman and a 3rd to KC for Johnson earlier today you would have thought there would be official word on it(aka Fox Sports, ESPN, Miami radio).

Exactly, thats why we cant part with anymore picks.
If they want a 3rd in addition then screw it,Larry Johnson isnt going to turn this season around anyways.
As much as it pains me to say this .......
Ive "come around" to the thought of parting with Surtain.
Hes a "shutdown corner" and one of my favorite players but his contract is about to be up and we could get some good picks for him.Ill take the Chiefs First and Third in 2005(should be high picks) for him, throw in Freeman for Johnson as well.
I dont know maybe thats stupid, but we have Howard and Poole who should be ready to start soon anyways.Madison would be the Ideal trade bait but his cap hit would be 6 million so thats not an option.
Its just really obvious we need some good picks and some money freed up from the defense to attack the draft and free agency for some quality Offensive Lineman.

We need to keep Surtain for this year. I do see us parting with him in the offseason. We could definitley get at least a 1st rounder for him.
