Interviewed on ESPN Sports Radio 810 (WHB-AM), Green said communication between the Chiefs and Dolphins regarding a potential trade has resumed at the urging of him and agent Jim Steiner. Dolphins General Manager Randy Mueller and Chiefs President/General Manager Carl Peterson failed to complete a deal during last weekend's NFL draft, with Kansas City wanting a fourth-round pick while only being offered a sixth-rounder.

Green said he has reached a contract agreement with the Dolphins and chose the club from among five other suitors after being told by Peterson in March that he could pursue a trade. Green cited his long-time relationships with Dolphins head coach Cam Cameron and quarterbacks coach Terry Shea for his reasons for wanting to come to South Florida.

"And it's the same offense," said Green, a Chiefs starter the past five seasons. "I just felt a real comfort zone there."

Green said he wanted to leave Kansas City because the quarterback competition is "heavily weighted" toward having 2006 third-round pick Brodie Croyle win the spot.

"When they made their decision that they wanted to go younger at quarterback, we said, 'Fine. We're going to find a team and we'll get something done. But just so you know, we're not coming back,'" Green said. "I don't want to go into training camp or into a season where I feel like I'm insurance, that if something does happens, 'Oh, well here's Trent. We'll lean on him.'

"If not, all of a sudden, you get to August and then they give you that call in training camp: 'Hey, come on in. I want to talk to you a minute. We're going to need you to take a pay cut in order to keep you.' And then all of a sudden, you're released. Then you're stuck and you have no place to play.

"The best chance and best opportunity for me is Miami. Hopefully, they'll get that done."

Green's departure from Kansas City appears imminent because he is due to make $7.2 million in 2007 and is refusing to restructure his contract for any other team but the Dolphins. Green is expected to start for the Dolphins in 2007 as the franchise grooms rookie John Beck as his heir apparent.

Sounds good to me.

TG is coming, he will be a perfect model for Beck. Cam and Mueller know they want high IQ guys with high character at QB. That leaves CPep out of the loop. Beck is the future, but perhaps TG can show Beck the ropes for and we have a good young talent and an older experienced guy. I only hope we can get a draft choice for Cpep, but I doubt anyone would take him for anything more than a 5th.

I just hope by the beginning of preseason that we know who are starting QB is, it would be nice to have him in here by next camp, i would'nt wait too long.

yeah i know i am unsure. i really like green but i think culpepper still has somethig left and can comeback. so im in the mix of who ever really as long as they produce.

1st off, Green will eventually get cut so Cam is dead to me if he actually coughs up our future for someone we can easily sign(nobody else wants him). 2nd, Green is an injury prone bum.

If Green eventually comes here, hopefully he wont be given the job, he has to earn it.

Green is doing/saying everything right. He praises the time he's been at KC and hopes to leave on good terms, but it's up to KC on how it all plays out. He even uses his family in a point of how it's unfair to them to drag this all out. The final dagger he had for KC was his analysis of saying a 6th was about right for him considering what Moss and Jackson went for (4th round pick. If KC was smart, they'd just take the 6th now and save a little face, rather than having to cut him later and having it look like they've completely back-stabbed TG and probably having a few vets there wondering if it will happen to them too (A P.R. nightmare). Regardless of whether you like him or not, he's coming to Miami to mentor Beck, so we need to embrace that. I think TG (regardless of how he plays or if he plays) will be a great mentor for Beck and get him off on the right foot and take over within 1-2 years.

Green is a stopgap. A cheap bandage, at best. A scab, what could he "mentor" our overrated rookie?

um some teams had him as the 5th best QB in the draft. How is that being overrated? And yes he would give Beck a year to sit back and watch and then start next year. He is an 'inexpensive' bandage, not cheap, that has been to pro bowls, thrown for over 4,000 yards 3 times, had a QB rating of over 90 5 times, and knows our offense since it is virtually the same thing as he is in now. If I was an incoming QB that sounds like a pretty good mentor to me.

well actually alot of teams had beck as the 3rd best Qb and others had him as the 2nd best over quinn, does further bolster your point though.

Does anyone know if TG has been given the offense's playbook to study? If he's not returning to KC, why not get him to study our formations and calls already?

Wouldn't mind it if Green is cut and we get him. I think Beck will need some time to develop because transitioning from a spread to a pro offense isn't easy (just ask Alex Smith or Joey Harrington). Culpepper's still iffy and announcing Cleo Lemon as starter for the Miami Dolphins will cause some chuckles among our AFC East rivals.
