Perhaps Chris Long isn't a lock for the Dolphins pick, apparently he doesn't think he is a good fit for a 3-4. As part of an article for JetsConfidential.com Dan Leberfield wrote:

The UVA defensive end admitted Saturday, at the combine, that he's not big enough to play end in a 3-4 defense.

Long measured 6-3, 272 pounds in Indianapolis.
"Most 3-4 ends are at least three beans (300 pounds)," Long said.
Long said 3-4 end is probably his third best position on the NFL level. 4-3 end would be Number One, and 3-4 outside linebacker would be second.
But Long has really never played 3-4 outside linebacker, so that is strictly a projection.
And he'd probably have to lose 20 pounds. His best position on the next level is clearly 4-3 end, so this makes him a bad fit for the Jets.

every DE would rather play in a 4-3 defense because they can have an easier chance to get to the QB. I think he fits in real well. here is why:
He isnt a stat machine in college. what make him great is his presence on the line. Perfect for a 3-4 DE. He doesnt have to be the guy sacking or tackling the guy to make his presence felt.

Good we don't want him as a strictly 3-4 DE, I'd rather him be able to play a 4-3 DE and a 3-4 OLB then a 3-4 end

I dont like Chris as much anymore. I thought he would be bigger. I believe he can be a good 3-4 OLB but I see Gholston as a better 3-4 OLB than him.

I magree on Gholston. I think he is the better athelete.

At 6'3" 272 lbs. it will be interesting to see what Chris Long runs. He will need to show he can be effective as a 3-4 OLB.....................

Gholston measured 6'3" 266, ran a 4.56 in the 40 and bench pressed 225 pounds 37 times. He is extremely muscular too. The perfect OLB in a Parcells defense.

Take Jake Long, then worry about the Defense later on.

You're right about "every DE", because thats where the money is, but the fact still remains we are talking about "presence" and not results. 35 million dollars is alot to pay for presence or better yet persistence. I think Long and his dads buddies are trying to play him up to get drafted early. To me Mayock (sp) should be talking about not drafting him in the first 20 picks instead of McFadden. The dude does nothing well, but everything good. If we were talking about any other last name this kid would be borderline 1st/2nd.
