Either with the 1 st pick and i'll be happy. Chris Long is very good no doubtsmart and quick.
Vernon Gholston reminds me of LT #56 Giants but with great strength to overpower a blocker rather then just speed.

:err: Just trying figure out who would best suit us and our needs. I think we should trade JT for a 2nd rounder to help rebuild the team faster.

1.olb/de
2a. OT
2b.Wr
2c.TE

Lets get Beck some help this year .

thats what i'm saying bro. Gholston is a monster. I'm not taking anything away from Chris Long because he's a great player no doubt....but LOOK at Gholston.

Does Ghoston not scare anyone that he may very well be a workout warrior with what LOOKS like tonnes of potential. He quits on plays, he needs a push, his tackle total was low but yes his sacks were high. He seems like an extreme boom or bust type player to me atleast. Of course if it's boom he'll be as effective to our team as any other position (even QB) but if he's a bust well, that would really suck.
Before anyone gives me the any player could be a bust speech, C.Long plays both the run and pass at a high level. His ceiling may not be as high as Gholston (but I'm sure their not that much different) but I really think his chances of being a bust would be way lower. Being Howie's kid has something to do with it, there will be a higher level of proving people that he's a great player on his own not because he's Howie's son. People say JT would be a great mentor to him but really would there be any greater mentor then his own father. Imagine C.Long getting out of line some how and Howie kicking his arse all over the place.
His motor has never been questioned like V.G has been. He will be a leader in the locker room aswell as on and off the field, and maybe just as important we'll never see his name in the headlines like M.Vick, PacMan, Hall, T.O, etc.....
That to me is more than enough reason to draft him ahead of Gholston, if we passed on Gholston and he reaches his full potential I doubt anyone would complain when C.Long is tearing up opposing offenses for us.
I know if we draft him my 5 year old boy will be wearing his jersey.

I don't see bust potential in Vernon Gholston given the fact that he will be in a much better situation with the Miami defensive coaching staff and will be used correctly than the way he was used in Ohio State.

Vernon Gholston FLAT OUT made Jake Long look silly on SEVERAL plays in the Ohio State-Michigan game.

With correct coaching on technique, this guy will be outstanding. He has the strength and leg drive to bullrush and the explosion to side-step and push his inside shoulder on the tackle into the QB. This guy knows how to rush the QB and has the physical attributes to make any move to get there.

I personally believe that Chris Long is maxed out and do believe he will struggle against above average tackles in the NFL when it comes to rushing the QB.

Chris Long may be a better leader right now, but when Vernon is correctly being coached into his OLB role, I firmly believe Vernon will become an excellent leader through production after 2 years in the NFL. Gholston obviously has the work ethic you look for in an elite football player (just look at the guy).

This is just my opinion.

The biggest thing for me is the numbers Gholston put up as a JUNIOR! Imagine if he would've come back for another year....he would have absolutely ripped it up. Compare Gholstons Junior year with C Longs...in short, they don't compare.

C.long improved every year he's been in college so how could he be maxed out.

David Boston looked the part of a great athlete, a physical freak who would eat up tiny CB's. Obviousily he had the work ethic you look for in an elite player, just look at him (thus the label workout warrior/ gym rat).

When people break down film and you see V.G stop on a play because it's on the other side of the field raises question marks about his work ethic. C.Long makes plays everywhere not just on his side of the ball.

Coaching technique doesn't all of a sudden make you strong against the run, you need a mental make up to dominate against the run. Technique improves your approach to tackling not giving you the nuts to shed blockers and make tackles. Gholston is a great pass rusher no doubt, but in college he did a tonne of head down and go. I hardly ever saw him bull rush, he usually got inside position and flew inside to the QB. I'm not questioning his ability to rush the QB it's his run game that sucks.

I've rarely ever seen guys become leaders later on, real leaders pardon my pun are born leaders. It's not something you learn, it's something you just do.

What scares me....

.... about Gholsten is that even back in high school his coaches couldn't extract much fire out of him. He is quoted in one of the draft publications as saying something like it is just a game I don't want to hurt people. This is nice and all but without that killer instinct I question how good he will really become.

Chris Long was never redshirted. Vernon was. So in ensence, Chris senoir year is equilavent to Vernon junior year.
