This snip from NFL.com includes the TWO (supposedly better) QBs drafted before RT as well as the TWO most recent super bowl winning QBs:

QBComp.PNG

Among QB's on the list, RT leads them ALL in the following:
- Total Yards and Yards Per Game
- Completion Percentage
- Touchdowns(and less ints than the two SB winners)
- First Downs and First Down Percentage
- Attempts per Game

Furthermore, among the 2012 class:
- RT is second behind (virtually tied with) RG3 in Passer Rating.
- has the most completions over 20yds
- has the most completions over 40yds!

* I did not include Russell Wilson because his numbers make it too easy to argue he is the best of the bunch. Even though he has 100+ fewer attempts...

Tannehill needs to improve no doubt but I have to think that some posters on here don't watch any games other than the Dolphins or their expectations for a second year guy are unrealistic.

But Tannehill has the most inaccurate deep ball in the NFL!! I WANT JOHNNY FOOTBALL!!!!!......

All this with virtually one of the worst OL in the NFL, No Run game, A horrible OC & a P*ssy for a #1 WR.

Remind me again how many games he has played at QB in the last 6 years? The guy continues to improve and develop every year.

This is how I'd rank the 2012 Rookie QB class so far this season: Wilson, Foles, Tannehill, Luck, RG3, Weeden

This right here is a quality post. Agreed on all points.

One thing I will say is that the sheer volume of attempts he's getting makes me optimistic that he will get the experience and reps he needs to develop.

I have said all along RT needs at least 5 years to evaluate him especially since he had little college QB experience. I do hope he is our guy and those stats make me feel better about it. However he does need to improve his deep ball drastically. Can you imagine how much better his stats would be if he was accurate on the deep ball?

No doubt he is benefitting from the adversity and pounding he has taken. The kid is resilient. To often young QBs get gun shy if they get hit an inordinate amount of times. Tannehill bounces back.

Tanny does leaves a boatload of plays on the field. He needs a better deep ball, better progression reads, better pocket awareness and better use of his feet. I think it takes him another 2-3 years before he's reached his full potential but if he keeps improving, i see no reason why we can't win a Super Bowl with him. Now the coaching staff, thats a whole other story.

Good post. My favorite thing about Tannehill is his mental toughness. He just doesn't get flustered. Even at the beginning of last season, I have never seen a game where he looks like he doesn't belong.

A boatload? Really? Please.....

Every young QB needs improvement in all the areas you list.

I have confidence that Tannehill will prove to be a good QB and challenge for the best in his class. But, he isn't as good as Luck or Wilson at this point, and durability is the thing that raises Tannehill above RGIII in my book.

Comparing him to Kaepernick and Flacco is fair, but you really should have included Wilson, Dalton and Newton. Comparing him to Eli is farcical. Eli is a hot and cold QB much like Rivers. But Eli is very clutch in big games. Comparing Tannehill to Eli's worst year iisn't really an accurate assessment.

All in all, your main point has merit--Tannehill looks like a good pick and developing into a good QB with top 10 potential. But he isn't there yet and selection of who and when to compare make him currently look better than he is in this group. He is getting there, but it takes time, chemistry, and an OL, so let's have patience.

I've been tough on him because he's too inconsistent and despite numbers and stats, inconsistency = nowhere. But I give him his props for being a tough SOB. I've said it before, the kid is fearless and has a short memory.

If he can improve to where his poor play is measured by games few and far between rather than measured through weekly game halves, he can become something special. With that in mind the jury is still out, although I'm hopeful, because I genuinely like the kid.

Plus I choose to measure Tanney against Tanney, not against QB's that I can't careless what they do.

Yeah a boatload.. What games do you watch? From the wide open bombs to Wallace, to crucial 3rd down passes, to red zone passes and even missed plays that can be made with his feet. He left atleast 14 points on the field yesterday in the first half alone. Not saying the guy is trash, just call it like it is and stop sugar coating it, he leaves plays out there..... A lot of plays.

Where is Nick Foles?

If Tannehill can finish out the season playing like he did yesterday, this season will be a smashing success in terms of his career trajectory in my opinion.

A boatload? Really? Please.....

I think the two plays to Hartline (one that was missed and one that wasn't thrown) were probably on him, but at the same time, I think people who act like they both would have been easy touchdowns are out of touch with reality. On that post to Hartline that Tannehill didn't throw, the man coverage was tight and I absolutely don't trust Hartline to outmuscle the DB for that ball. On the 4th and 1 play, I don't know. He gave Hartline a chance and I'm not sure that if the ball was out in front the DB doesn't catch up anyway.

Now, the throw in the end zone to Clay... gotta hit that. Even if I think the playcalling there was the biggest problem, he was open. Gotta hit it.

I honestly thought Tannehill played poorly in the first half yesterday. Hoops said it was the worst half of football he's seen from him this season and I think I agree -- that or the first half against Buffalo. You go back and look at games like Baltimore or Carolina, a lot of those missed plays are on the receivers. Yesterday, I saw missed plays from the QB. It's frustrating because if these guys can get it all going at the same time, our offense could actually be good.
