I stumbled across a memorable game on youtube. First game after the 9/11 tragedy. Fiedler on the cover of SI that week. I'll never forget this one. Full game. Been looking for this one for a while.

I have quite a few memories from this game: Fiedler sucked. I rooted for NE, because I never thought they'd be back, and I hated the Raiders, but then NE was gifted the SB, and now I hate myself. Gadsden was the original OBJ. Kiko Alonso would've been in his heyday. James McKnight sucked my white ass. Travis Minor was a wasted pick. After Johnson's failed reign, why would Huizenga, or whatever his name was, hire Wannstedt to be the head coach?

classic Jay Fiedler game. Two ints, one Pick 6 overcome by gutsy late game hard hitting memorable plays. TD's just before the end of the half and the game both running with no time outs.

The Wannstedt years were such a joy. The Dolphins made such sense from a betting standpoint. My best systems clicked far more often than not, whether they called for a wager on the Dolphins or against them.

That season I had a big play on Miami +7 opening at Tennessee on a Monday Night. I played it months in advance because I was sure it wouldn't last. Number went down to +6 at kickoff. Outright win and never really a sweat.

This game was different. I remember playing Miami -1 and staying home to sweat it out, instead of remaining in the sportsbooks per norm.

Then we got massacred at St. Louis a week later. I gave Rams -6 but kicked myself for not playing higher. That was the angle of playing 2 or more consecutive games on grass, coming off a victory, and then playing on the road on artificial turf...go against the team. It was my best angle for years and years. The road team often got absolutely crushed. One year in the late '90s that system had a record of 16-1 when the home team was underdog or up to 3 point favorite.

Best play of the season was mid year when Miami hosted the Jets with Dolphins giving -6. Everything pointed major to the Jets. I always gave my friend Joe one play per week. He was a dealer at the Riviera. It was uncanny how well those picks did when I gave them to Joe. He thought I was the best in town but I kept telling him it was just a weird situation in which he only wanted NFL -- not college -- and for whatever reason I was clear minded when talking to him and only gave him my best system stuff.

We watched the game together at the Imperial Palace sportsbook. It seemed like it was a cinch midway through the first quarter. Complete rout. Joe looked at me and said, "I never have a game like this in my life when I'm picking on my own."

Sigh. I wish it had remained that way. The Dolphins have never been as dependable since Wannstedt and once field turf replaced artificial turf all over the league many great systems mostly fell by the wayside.
