Did anyone else catch the Sports Reporters this morning when M. Wilbon tried to bring Marino down a peg and then in the same segment contradicted himself?

He was asked why is it that Aikman is not regarded as a great qb & why is he below Marino's level or something to that effect. Wilbon said "he's not below Marino and I think others feel the same way because Aikman has 3 rings (not verbatim), "but if you want a pure passer..."

And in the same segment when he tries to justify Moon's HOF election he compares Warren to other "GREAT qbs like Fouts & Marino" huh? I kid you not. Do they even realize what comes out of their mouths anymore?

He implied Marino wasn't a complete qb. Every time someone says "oh he's a pure passer" or D. Sanders was the best "cover" corner that's a backhanded compliment. And don't ever accuse me of crying media bias b/c I have my own brain & on occasion I choose to point out the nonsense that is passed for journalistic credibility. Do your homework before you try to place someone in a certain category.

A quarterback who wins a Super Bowl is automatically consider great and this is total B.S.
Look at the average to below average QB's who have won the big game....
Trent Dilfer
Mark Ripien
Doug Williams
Jeff Hostetler

none of those guys exactly scared defenses, they we average qb's playing on great teams...football is a team game, not an individual sport.
So, just because they won a Super Bowl doesn't make them a great QB, neither does a great QB not winning a Super Bowl make him not great, he simply played on an average to below average team.

Dude, you totally missed my point. It was the bad rap Marino gets for NOT playing for a Super Bowl team and that some how puts him below other great QB's who had the good fortune of playing on one....get it???

You didn't piss me off, lol no prob bro. I hear you and on the flip side I get tired of definitive "no one hates us threads." I don't believe a whole network hates us but certain tv/radio/print personalities couldn't wait for our Phins to fall ('04) so they chose/choose to take advantage of the opportunity. But don't worry watch how everyone jumps on the bandwagon next year.

I kinda like Wilbon, but I will agree with the fact that ALOT of reporters and broadcasters are really inconsistant. They have so many sports shows, they can go from one show to the next and change thier opinons. I've seen so many do it. Salsbury is the KING. Just to make themselves look better or to sell the story they'll say whatever. Makes me scream in my living room, and it's actually sending me back to school for broadcasting so I can be a part of changing that. That's so irresponsible. We have so many sources of entertainment that most won't take the time to call them on it.

In Wilbons case. He's saying Aikman is ALSO great. Marino is "considered" a step below on a championship level. But as a pure passer, no one was greater than him or Fouts. Being a pure passer and a great QB, I admit, are totally different things. So it's all a technicality really. It sucks to have to live the rest of my life hearing Marino was great, BUT. If that bothers me, and some of you, imagine how it makes our hero feel... Damn.
