It is basically what we have been hearing for days, but this is Clayton's blog he just put up tonight:

Here's the latest on the Joey Harrington waiting game. The former Lions quaterback has all but agreed to a two-year contract with the Dolphins. He picked the Dolphins over the Bengals. But the Dolphins and the Lions are nowhere in working out a trade. The Dolphins originally weren't willing to give up any draft choice for Harrington after trading away two 2006 picks for two quarterbacks -- Duante Culpepper and Cleo Lemons. They are willing to offer a low-round pick in 2007, but the Lions think they can get a third- or a fourth-round pick. If nothing is worked out by June, Harrington will have to be released because he is owed a $4 million roster bonus.

Damn it. I hope this thing doesn't turn out to take a long time to do.

No way Nick gives that up- we have our QB (that feels nice to say :) )

Sign Martin, Maddox or Collins and move on.

Dolfan--there isn't a one week deadline on this trade. Miami would be stupid to stop bargaining just because the Lions are shaking their heads at their offers. Negotiating is a two-sided affair, and you only get what the market offers. The Lions will realize that very soon.

Our only healthy QB right now is Cleo Lemon, and passing camps have begun. Nick wanted his backup this Monday, and if I have learned anything about the man, its that he doesnt wait for any player- its take it or leave it, or move on to Option B. I think we have our new backup by early next week at the latest, and it could still be Joey... But I am not counting on it.

Nick doesn't have a lot of control over that. Maddox would be "settling", which Saban doesn't do, from what I've seen. Collins is considering retirement. Jamie Martin...that's just bottom of the barrel. I don't believe in signing someone just to get somebody out on the field.

I just came up with a New Nick Saban/Chuck Norris thing

Nick Saban doesnt negotiate, he tells you what your getting and wears ypu down untill you agree

Fair enough. But I just dont see Nick waiting until June to figure out the backup QB.

Saban will wait this out until they drop the price, cut him, or someone reaching an agreement with Harrington. Sounds like Saban and Harrington are on the same page and they are playing pocker with Detroit.

The Bengals won't trade for him if they don't agree to a new deal with him and if Joey likes the Dolphins better, maybe he'll just wait to be cut and then join the Dolphins.
