After a 0-3 start to this season, the mood in South Florida has turned dark and quiet once again. Although multiple team sources said Wednesday that Sparano's job is not in imminent jeopardy, it might now be time for the coach to dig deep to keep it that way.
Ross has privately delivered a continued vote of confidence in general manager Jeff Ireland, who has become one of Ross' closest confidants over the past year. By extension of Ireland's support, Ross is also remaining patient with Sparano after the rough start.
This is not to suggest Ireland holds any level of authority over Sparano, but it has been made clear by several sources -- both on the football operations side and the business side of the organization -- that Ireland's endorsement and plea for patience as it pertains to Sparano has resonated with Ross as recently as Sunday's loss to Cleveland.
As a result of the current power structure, which has clearly changed since Bill Parcells brought Sparano and Ireland into the organization seemingly as equals in 2008, several factors could become important to watch as the Dolphins' season unfolds.
The potential for dissension between Sparano and players might actually be less temperamental at this point than the potential for dissension between the coaching staff and the personnel department.

Meh, nothing most of us didn't already know. I haven't seen the players quit on Sparano yet, not like they did on Cameron, so that's a good sign. I would be surprised if there wasn't some kind of dissension between the personnel department (Ireland) and the coaches (Sparano) given the fact Ireland was cruising in a private jet with Ross looking for a new coach. That stuff doesn't just go away. And some of the moves Ireland has made seem to be setting up Sparano for failure. Colombo, Matt Moore, signing Larry Johnson instead of better options at RB, kicking Vernon Carey inside instead of signing Brian Waters...although I think that was probably both of them agreeing on the move given the restructure of his contract prior to the move inside. It just has seemed to me that Ireland has been putting in a half hearted effort this off season for Sparano. Maybe he's trying to get a high pick for Luck feeling confident he won't lose his job...that seems far fetched even for me to say it.

I don't know...but we've got problems on the field and in the front office.

ireland isnt the one who puts the players in the line up.

he can bring in every player in the nfl but that doesnt mean tony has to play them.

tony has a major boner for columbo, he is one of, no, he IS tonys guy! and that is why we see him helping pass rushers get to our qb every other play. ts is in love for some odd reason.

shame on both, ireland for signing off on columbo and sparano for playing him.

we have gotten a couple of decent players here and there but the way ireland handles the draft and f/a is atrocious!! that biz last year of passing up such a great young safety [which we needed in the worst way] for a 4-3 DE in jared oderick. that right there should have gotten him run.

way to many small school nobodys like nalbone. yes, every great once in a while a team finds a gem in the unkown school, unknown player relm. but its LUCK! this bunch does it like if you pick the what school is that player, they WILL be probowlers.

this is BAD news. ireland isnt real respected around the league, hes no ron wolfe. and coaches generaly look to see who the gm is before signing with a team. i dont see a jeff fisher or chucky working under ireland. and even though cowher is never coming here anyways, he would NEVER work under a bumbling pup like ireland.

man, if this bit about ireland and ross being joined at the hip is true, we are in for some LONG dark years.

Not sure any of this matters right now. If your team continues to suck bad, you have great chance for luck. right? so keep on keepin on brotha! we love FG's Tony! lose 16 for the franchise! we're all in!

Someone else said it another thread... Ireland is a GOD AWFUL GM but a Championship A$$ kisser... Sig worthy...
