Defensive back Mackensie Alexander had an impressive vertical jump of 37.5 inches, ran an unofficial 4.40 40-yard dash time, ten-foot broad jump, and 3-cone time of 7.17. He has also been seen chatting it up with Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin. According to NFL Draft insider Tony Pauline, Alexander had a one-on-one meeting with the New York Jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers last night. He also reports that Alexander had a Wednesday night dinner with head coach Sean Payton and assistant general manager Jeff Ireland of the New Orleans Saints.

Defensive end Kevin Dodd did 22 reps of 225 pounds at the bench press, 30.5-inch vertical jump, broad jump of 9'2", 5-10-5 drill time of 4.44 and a 3-cone drill of 7.32. He said that he has a visit planned with the Carolina Panthers next Wednesday.

Defensive end Shaq Lawson said that he has already met with 22 NFL teams today and will fly out this week to do a ESPN Sports Science episode.

I would love Kevin Dodd at #13. I think he has more upside as a pass rusher than Shaq Lawson.

I think Miami ends up with Eli Apple there. But if Apple and Vernon Hargreaves are both gone, I wonder if Mackensie Alexander is in play.

I like Dodd, but I'm still thinking Nkemdiche at DE and rush DT. Xavien Howard in rd 2 intrigues me, but we may have to go OG Joshua Garnett there as a priority. Maybe DE Charles Tapper in rd 4, look at OG Westerman, CBs Deondre Hall and Harlan Miller in rd 3. I'm still not sleeping on C to OG converts Graham Glasgow and Jack Allen in rd 4.

there's your beast Guard

My favorites are still Garnett and Westerman, but the other two Guards I like. Plan A and plan B.

Some good ideas there. I'm not a fan of Nkemdiche, for character concerns. No doubt he's a talented football player. Gooden intrigues me as well. Love the idea of Garnett in R2.

wouldn't mind a Nkemdiche, Garnett 1-2 punch to start the draft.

Yep, it's time to make this team mean again. I would love to start the draft like that.

For all the hate Ireland got, he made sure to put a emphasis on the big & strong.

Philbin had some kind delusion that his team didn't need that. years of drafting players with no care about being physical is what got us to where we were last season. A soft team.

As for Dodd, I don't really get the excitement about him, doesn't do much for me. I'll have to watch some more.

Nice player, but like you, i don't rate him as high as others and will need to look at a little more tape. He uses his hands well when he rushes...nice rip with inside arm as he uses his speed on the outside, nice counter inside step.....but he's not twitchy like Lawson. When i see him run the arc, i don't see the bend. Honestly, sometimes i wonder how he got past the OT (like in the Bama game) because nothing looked out of the ordinary. He gets swallowed up a bit in the run game, making the occasional play when he slants. I think this is because he uses too much shoulder and not his hands.

Yeah that's exactly what I saw.

He's productive, he does good things out there, but I don't get how or why. Like even though I see him winning, its not impressive.

Its like a magic trick or something.

But this draft is weirder than usual IMO. It seems like there is far less of agreement on which players belong where in this years draft.

Not a fan of Dodd. I have Lawson's comp as a lesser Brandon Graham. 2nd-3rd RD imo.

What's your comp for Nkemdiche? Lots of talk here about him, but man those character issues and lack of production scare me off. Kind of think he drops to the 2nd round, but maybe a team like Seattle takes him toward the end of round 1.

With Miami looking hard at pass rushers (I assume), who are the early round prospects that you like?

Hard to find a good comp for him. A bigger more agile Allen Bailey? If Miami uses a 5-tech consistently at one DE, and his character checks out (no idea, not gonna guess), he'd be at the top of the wishlist at 13. On passing downs, he could kick inside to play next to Suh - leaving Williams and (if healthy) Wake on the edges. Don't want him playing 7 or 9-tech, though.

My thanks button doesn't work, but just want to say thanks. Interesting to see who the BPA could be for Miami at #13. I don't think Hargreaves will still be available, although some mocks have him sliding to that spot.

With all the moves made on defense, I wonder if the Dolphins surprise and go offense. I still think the primary needs are corner and defensive end (pass rusher), but there is still a glaring hole at guard and someone like Jack Conklin could be a nice fit and insurance at left tackle.

Gonna be honest, Lawson is growing on me.

I know he might not be the athlete you want at pass rusher, and J-off has done a really good job at convincing me that to be a really good pass rusher you need to test really well.

That guy just looks like a really good future NFL player to me.

Ps: Not advocating drafting him in the 1st rnd by any means, but I think he will be a good pro. He might get called a bust because of how high he gets drafted, but I think he will stick around for a long time.

Unfortunately, this class as a whole isn’t very impressive at the top, and that reflects in the pass-rushing class. There is one Force Player: Shaq Lawson of Clemson. There is one Mid Tier player: Jonathan Bullard of Florida.

Shaq Lawson tests out very well as an athlete. I think he gets overlooked because he doesn't have the prototype body for a DE, but the guy can play. I am also a big fan of Jonathan Bullard. He's a guy who can play outside and end and reduce inside on passing downs.
