Coaches' Abilities Can Be Seen in Black and White

It has been a good year for black head coaches in the NFL. In August, late pioneer Fritz Pollard was finally inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Tony Dungy's team, the Indianapolis Colts, has the best record in the league (13-1).

Lovie Smith is architect of this season's biggest turnaround surprise, the NFC North-leading Chicago Bears (10-4).

Marvin Lewis? He's guided the Cincinnati Bengals (11-3) to their first division title and playoff berth in 15 years.

And Matt Millen - a white man and embattled Detroit Lions GM who is the only person ever fined for violating the Rooney Rule that requires interviewing minority candidates for head coaching jobs - has already taken steps to comply on his next search.

OK, it hasn't been all roses on this front.

Herm Edwards' team has nosedived to 3-11, a season after being a missed field goal away from advancing to the AFC title game. And the Arizona Cardinals (4-10) are getting the same type of non-playoff results from Dennis Green as they had with Dave McGinnis, Vince Tobin, Buddy Ryan, Joe Bugel and Gene Stallings.

why do we even have to pay attention to color at all?

A black coach or a white coach can be successful, its just being racist to try and defend black coaches over white coaches or white coaches over black coaches

Why cant they all just be 'Coaches'


The league does need more african american coaches, but to keep bringing up the topic of race is going to cause problems

But color does matter when it comes to hiring a head NFL and/or NCAA Div. 1 Football coach... The record speaks for itself...

I know I kind of said it wrong

What I was trying to say is

NFL teams or NCAA teams shouldnt be looking at color at all when Hiring a coach, if the guy is black, white, asian, or whatever as long as he is the best guy for the job he should be hired, there are 32 NFL teams, and black coaches are in the minority and it shouldnt be that way is what i was trying to say I guess
