Coaches think they struck Gold with Brown !!

Lance just hasn't been around long enough to pick it up. I figure Bell will start until the Bye and then that's when you'll hear that Lance is outplaying him and gets the starter job.
 
Keep in mind this: Saban will gameplan each team according to their greatest weakness or whatevery we can exploit, so you have to know the basics and alot of the different set ups before you react to whatever Saban plans for that week. He cant afford to have a guy a little behind the eight ball when he is throwing in some new stuff. Thats just my little inside turd.

oh yeah? ask the jets about blair thomas...or cincy with ki-jana..well ki got hurt, but blair was one of the biggest rb busts ever (excluding rashaan salaam..curtis enis..umm huum sammie smith..a few dozen others as well)..if we got a player, then we got a player..lets just hope he stays on this path..

Of course this is from a fantasy footbal perspective article. But you can see the results are the same from NFL productivity perspective. Gives me hope that Ronnie can be a HOF type of back. 5 out of the 7 backs were superstars. Hopefully Ronnie will be the 6th. I think you can argue whether or not KiJana would've been good or not had he not gotten injured. I think most of us knew that Curtis Enis was a bust before he was drafted. No coincidence they were both Penn State.

Ronnie Brown was the 2nd overall pick in this year's draft, a rare feat for a running back. In fact, the last time a RB was taken 2nd overall was back in 1994 when a ultra-productive runner from San Diego State became the Colts top choice. His name was Marshall Faulk. All too often of late, I've seen people refer to Curtis Enis and Ki-jana Carter as reasons to be wary of high RB draftees. Yet, that's selective memory. Excluding this year's draft class (Brown, Williams and Benson were all top 5 picks), seven (7) RBs have been selected in the top 5 over the last 10 years.


Marshall Faulk, 2nd overall, 1994 -- One of the best running backs of his generation. 7-time Pro Bowler, League MVP and 4th all time in yards and touchdowns
Ki-Jana Carter, 1st overall, 1995 -- Ki-Jana suffered a major knee injury at the start of his career thus making a proper evaluation impossible.
Curtis Enis, 5th overall, 1998 -- Injuries derailed Enis from the start, he only played in nine games as a rookie and was out of the league three years later
Edgerrin James, 4th overall, 1999 -- Led the league in rushing his first two seasons, bounced back from a knee injury with two more spectacular seasons (and counting)
Ricky Williams, 5th overall, 1999 -- Three consecutive top 10 fantasy seasons, four 1,000 yard seasons, led the league in rushing in 2002. Only his penchant for weed has kept him from remaining among the league's elite
Jamal Lewis, 5th overall, 2000 -- Four 1,000 yard seasons (including two 1,300 yard seasons and the vaunted 2,000 yard campaign in 2003) and one of the league's premier power backs
LaDainian Tomlinson, 5th overall, 2001 -- The best offensive player in the league, the consensus top fantasy option this year. Tomlinson has more rushing yards and TDs than any back in NFL history through four seasons

I hate the comparison to the Eagles drafts over the same era. The writer tries to make it seem way lopsided between the drafts of the Fins and the Eagles. The Eagles got 8 starters and the Fins got 7 (assuming you include Ricky). The Eagles had one great draft in that group (2002), two that sucked (2000, 2001), and two (2003, 2004) that are too early to call.

The writer is ignoring the fact that the Fins had 11 first day picks with only 2 1st round selections in those 5 drafts. The Eagles had 15 1st day picks and 5 1st round picks.

The Pats have clearly done a better job, but other that one draft, the Eagles haven't been impressive.

I agree. Considering that so many people consider the Philly and NE front offices the best in the league, the Fins don't actually look that bad in comparison. The Pats have had their share of high picks who have done nothing: Ben Watson, Marquise Hill, Guss Scott, Bethel Johnson, Brock williams, JR Redmond, Adrian Klemm. I'm also having a hard time finding 12 starters from those Patriots drafts -- as I see it they have: Brady, Pass, Seymour, Light, Graham, Branch, Givens, Wilson, Samuel, Koppen and Wilfork. That's 11. Considering that NE had 5 No. 1s and 14 first day picks (including 6 2nd rounders copmared to the Fins' 3) during that time span, I don't consider that so overwhelming. It's also misleading because it doesn't take into account guys who are now starting for other teams. I didn't recognize any of the Pats picks as starters on other teams, but a few of the Fins' draft picks are (Wade, Greenwood). Also, had he not been injured, Will Poole probably would have been a starter, bringing miami's total to 8 starters.

Doesn't make sense. Striking gold means they found a great player. Just because they should strike gold doesn't mean they didn't.
 
The thing with the Yeremiah Bell/Lance Schulters thing is that I would love to see the younger Yeremiah perform better and stay HEALTHY throughout the season than get hurt yet again and see potential go down with another injury. So as I see it right now Schulters is solid insurance in case Bell gets hurt again.

Also I hope Tony Bua starts picking up the nuances of the position of safety so he can not only be a special teams ace but come in and contribute if needed. And from what I saw (which was little) of the games this preseason Travares Tillman looked decent as did Tebucky Jones (definitely not the player Haslett traded for and had such harsh words for upon releasing him)

So Safety was and still could be a problem for us but I'm confident in this unit as of now. :D
