Does anyone think either of these two guys will be a good #2 back behind Ronnie when Ricky retires? This is of course assuming us keeping Ronnie long term.

its very possible , we havent seen enough playing time from them. if we dont draft a rb, i bet these 2 will get their chances next year.

No. And I actually don't even expect any of the two to be our #3 RB after next season, if they make the squad at all.

I believe that Hilliard will probably be traded and Cobbs will probably be cut. Now if they decide to keep 4 RBs (which I only see if they trade Thigpen, which is possible), then I can see maybe Cobbs make it as the #4 RB.

But I expect them to give Kory Sheets and a draft pick to battle it out as the #3 RB behind Brown and Williams.

If Hilliard isn't traded, then he battles it out with Cobbs for the #4 RB, again and that only if they trade Thigpen.

If they keep Thigpen, then I think they would only keep 3 RBs, which then I can see them both cutting Cobbs and if not trading Hilliard, cutting him too.

I just think they will be trying to find Williams replacement in the late rounds and Kory Sheets. JMO.

I'm still intrigued with HIlliard, but kid has to get better in his pass pro . . . tho that last game with Woodley on him and he whiffed, that was just dumb on all levels, but he needs to be chillin with Ronnie this offseason and getting some pointers from him on pass pro. I definitely think Hillard is an option as Ronnie's backup going forward, but we do need that slasher 3rd down back, and that spot is between Sheets/Cobbs.

Cobbs is strictly a 3rd down back . . . who could be a 1 week filler as a starter due to injury . . . but that's it.

They love Cobbs, he does everything they want. He helps out at running back, receiver and special teams and he's relatively cheap. He's not going anywhere. With Ronnie and Ricky's contracts due to expire Hilliard isn't going anywhere either. If they have to cut one it'll be Hilliard.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hilliard doesn't even make the final roster this upcoming season. So for Lex, my answer would be no. Cobbs is always going to be a specialty back. He will see the field a bunch, but in no way is an every down back if injuries start to mount.

IMO Ricky's replacement is not on the roster. We need to draft a back in the mid rounds to develop. Hilliard looks okay, but I didn't see an every down back when he played.

i think cobbs wears to many hats to be cut. i see hilliard or sheets on the outside looking in

I guess what I was getting at was do we need to draft a back if a good one becomes available this draft or we are set for a while?

Miami is probably set at running back for 2010....not beyond that...

Unless they trade Ronnie, I dont see them spending a signficant pick on a running back.....especially with all the other areas that need immediate attention...

Running back isn't a position that you have to draft with an eye on the future.....running back is the easiest position for a rook to come in and contribute...make an impact...

With the running back situation being up in the air after next year (along with the NFL period)....I would simply wait until then to address it with a draft pick...

As for Cobbs and/or Hilliard being a competent #2.....no...

there wont be any football next year at the nfl level its becoming more unlikely that they reach a agreement . I like cobbs just not on special teams but that is due to our lack of a specail teams coach who is good to make adjusments in the return game this is why i was hoping you guys woulod look aty cb perrish cox highlights on special team returns.

idk I like Hilliard. Don't think they used him enough. His pass protection may leave a lot to be desired but as a ball carrier I think he is pretty good. Think he showed some potential on a few plays. Notably, on that 3rd and 18 draw play he converted. Forget which game, now. Probably one of the loses. Personally think RB is far down on the list of concerns.

Hell yeah I do.. I like both.. Our offense was waaay better with cobbs in the mix
