Cold Weather Games

Josh Allen once had a similarly poor record in games played under some arbitrary number of degrees. But then the team surrounding him got better on the both sides of the ball and that record improved. Crazy how that often works.

I'd like to see the extra context of how many points the Dolphins have surrendered in those 7 losses. That's kind of an important factor too, no?

Silly me, I guess, for understanding that Tua doesn't go out and play the game all by himself as if he were Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal or Novak Djokovic.

I'll bet many other QB's leading teams not considered elite or top 5 most seasons also have poor records in weather under whatever temperature one wants to arbitrarily set. Because their team isn't as good as their opponents team. Simple as that.

I'll bet the reverse is also true in games played under intense HEAT over an arbitrary temperature.

I think if one really deep dives they'll discover this: The better all-around team typically wins, unless the weather and/or field conditions are ridiculously crazy (such as -59 for the 1981 AFC Championship game or -20 for last seasons Chiefs-Dolphins game) which of course goes a long way toward eliminating or evening out a talent or skill advantage.

It's accurate, but not without a lack of context. If I'm not mistaken, three of those games were against Buffalo, and one of them was against KC last year. And it's not like that last one was "a little chilly." It was literally one of the coldest weather games in the history of the league. Fans lost body parts because of that game.

Absolutely NONE of this matters.

100 percent irrelevant.

The only thing that matters is Tua and this offensive team remain focused and intense with high confidence…

The offense we have seen since Tua came back 5 weeks ago has been very good and getting better.

The Dolphins need to stay focused and they will beat Green Bay like a drum!

I can't tell if yesterday was a "get right" game for the Packers or just them beating up on a very beaten up Niners team. They did NOT play well the three weeks before that - barely beating Jacksonville and Chicago and losing to Detroit at home.

Green Bay is definitely beatable.

Only one way to break this cold narrative. Only one way to break the narrative of beating winning teams. IF we lose this game, we aren't that team this year to beat these narratives.

Would be nice to win this game, given that we're probably going to have to go through a combination of Buffalo, KC, and the AFC North winner in the playoffs.

They'll likely get another opportunity in Cleveland in one months time. I imagine that game will be quite chilly as well. As might the final game of the regular season on January 5th in NY.

Love got hurt in that Jacksonville game early. He might still be a little banged up, it's a groin so those tend to linger

There's no "narrative" to break. Other than simply being the better team on that given day.

This nonsense that Dolphins lose games (that they should otherwise win) simply because it's cold is as one-dimensional as it gets.

Go research the Dolphins history. Specifically during their 1970's heyday. I'll bet you discover that their record in COLD games was a lot better than it is now or has been for most of the past 30 years. And that's because they were the superior team against 90% of the opponents they faced. On both sides of the ball.

When that isn't the case, they lose more of those games than they win. Simple as that.

Same goes for playing in HEAT. While extreme conditions clearly can level the playing field, the better all-around team typically wins regardless.

So, again, the Dolphins aren't losing the vast majority of cold or inclement weather games simply because of the weather. They are losing them because the teams they've been facing have been better than them on the whole.

Despite what some may believe, the Dolphins don't win all their hot and humid games in Florida during the months of September and October, either. While it certainly has had effects in some games, specifically against inferior or comparable opponents, when a superior opponent comes into Hard Rock -- that team tends to beat Miami regardless of the weather.

This isn't that complicated and nuanced.

Agree nor is the franchise "cursed".

Yikes.... I'd wager that some of that is the fact that those are always going to be away games. I mean, yeah, we want him to play better in those situations.. But dont we (as a team) have a pretty bad track record in these cold games for the past like 50 years??? Feels like it might be more of a miami dolphin problem than a tua problem

Fwiw, this isn't a Tua thing, it's a Dolphins thing. Also, to summise what @EJay was mentioning.

When the temperature is 23 degrees or colder, Miami is 3-7 all-time.

Miami has won only once since 1992 - 32 years ago - when it's 23 degrees or colder.

Just win.

Dude, I want to win Thursday night, but I am not going to get my hopes up. The weather is projected to be around 25 degrees at 2100 and as stated by others, Tua and company are not a cold weather team. Plus, Green Bay just played and dominated SF and their scheme foundation is similar to ours. Don't get me wrong, I am not hoping for a loss, but I am trying to be realistic. I would be very surprised, and delighted if we beat GB like a drum. At this point, I will just take a win, even if it is just by 1 point.
