Wow, 1992 seems like a lifetime ago. I remember Marco was supposed be what JT became for us. After a few DE draft busts, Shula came through with his selection. What could have been. Anyone have a favorite Coleman memory? Thanks Marco.

My biggest memory was on draft day. I remember how exciting it was that we had 2 1st round draft picks (#7 and #12 I believe) from the previous year's trade of Randal Hill. The 1st pick was Troy Vincent and then the 2nd pick was Marco Coleman.

I didn't even know the guy was still playing.

Can't remember anything great he did on the field during a game. So I guess my favorite memory of him was Ace Ventrua knocking him out with ether.

Yeah same here, as well as their first yr. We finally had young playmakers on D. And remember we drafted B. Cox the yr before to go along with imo Shula's last best defensive draft:
Troy Vincent, Marco Coleman, Larry Webster & Dwight Hollier.

I was happy when we got him and Vincent too but I never liked the idea that we moved him to DE....He started out as an OLB and was pretty good at rushing the QB from that position cos the o-line didn't know when he was coming but once he became a DE he was never as good as I had hoped.....I think he was a little small to play the run and as a pass rusher it seems like he was always just a little late in getting the QB....He was just an average player with about 4 or 5 sacks a year if that.

Ozzy rules!!

I hear you. I believe he averaged 6 sks a yr with us. Marco got better once he left. Just look at T. Vincent - he learned on the job with us but became a PBer with his next team.

He was definitely a VERY SOLID PLAYER...good luck to him and his family!

Wow, one thing it does is make me realize that I'm getting a lot older. Coleman never really produced on the field like he was supposed to. He was solid I guess. I think he might have been better suited to play OLB, particularly early in his career.

It was a shame that JJ had such a bad relationship with veterans. It would have been nice to keep, Vincent, Coleman, and Cox. Instead of having to rebuild the defense from scrap.

I'm not complaining about their eventual replacements, Madison, Taylor, and Thomas, but I still resent JJ for forcing out so much talent from an underacheiving team. It blew Marino's last chances for at a SB ring.

I met Marco Coleman in Indianapolis when he was a rookie. We are both from the same town of Dayton, Ohio. He used to work at a restaurant two blocks from where I lived. I am a Georgia Tech fan so we talked about the Yellow Jackets as well and his years there.

He was a real nice guy.

All I can remember is that I too had high hopes form that draft and I did like Coleman. We should have never moved him outside.

I think Marco was a rookie on the Undefeated 1972 Team or at least it feels like he's been around that long. He had a great career. Great career because he played for more than a decade was paid well, leaves basically healthy and probably has enough money saved to pick and choose what he wants to do with the rest of his life (hopefully). Plus he was a class act.

He was pretty solid against the run to the outside. He was always a half-step too slow getting pressure on the QB. Honestly, he didn't impress me very much.
