Just like in what used to be Division I-AA, the tournament would feature four rounds with teams seeded one through 16. Just like the wildly popular and profitable NCAA men’s basketball tournament, champions of all the conferences (all 11 of them) earn an automatic bid to the field.
Yes, all 11. Even the lousy conferences. While no one would argue that the Big South champ is one of the top 16 teams in the country, there are multiple benefits of including champions of low-level leagues.

Rather a lengthy article, but.... makes a lot of sense if you ask me.

Yes please. The only ones with something to lose are the high and mighty who say that the little guys can't compete.

16 is too big.. what's the point of the regular season? 3-loss teams having a shot at the title? I don't like it!

You'll never again have a good OOC game out of the stronger conferences.

Here is my suggestion for a playoff:

I like the BCS, keeps things interesting... but its too unfair. You can argue whether it should be Texas or OU till you're blue in the face, either way someone is getting screwed, just like Auburn earlier this decade.

So my idea:

6 team playoff.

Each BCS champion gets a Bowl game. If a non-BCS or independent is ranked in the top 10 at the end of the season, they get to bump a BCS team off... if there's two of them ranked in the top 8, they bump 2 teams.

Schedule (with bowl name alternating yearly):
*Remember, these are seeded based on rank, but all are conference champs unless a non-bcs/independent is ranked high enough

Week 1:
Game A (Rose)- #3 vs #6
Game B (Orange)- #4 vs. #5

Week 2:
Game C (Fiesta)- #1 vs. Game A Winner
Game D (Sugar)- #2 vs. Game B Winner

Week 3:
Game E (Title Game)- Game C Winner vs. Game D Winner.

Thoughts?

And when the mid-majors lose it's because they're supposed too. Nothing to gain and everything to lose for major conference teams. Utah and Boise St proved they belonged while Hawaii got beat down. The games should be settled on the field. Though why stop at Utah and just Boise St. Ball St. is undefeated also. If a smaller scale playoff of about 8 teams in place they've got as much arguement as Utah and Boise St. Further more why would Boise or Utah ever schedule a non-conference team that could beat them going forward?

I think the plus 1 is the most likely scenario. Though that would likely leave a team such as Texas Tech, Penn St or a different major conference team with 1 loss out. Alabama is the only major conference team that's undefeated. Right now they're the only team I think that an undisputable arguement can be made for. Other than that I think Texas is the most deserving. Florida IMO, is the least deserving out of Oklahoma/Texas and Bama/Florida winner.

The so-called "mid-majors" have won more than they have lost. How many BCS games has (the) Ohio State won in the last 5 years?

In my dreams Utah and Boise both get invited to different games and both win. What excuse would the BCS dole out then? Injuries? Strength of schedule being a attrition factor? I'm sure they'd come up with some reason besides the fact that the better team won.

The fact of the matter is that the BCS is more interested in money than sportsmanship.

I'd like to see Boise State in the Championship game.

Utah deserves a shot more, even though Boise State is undefeated against the Mountain West Conference.

The last time Boise State played Utah the score was 36-3.

Maybe 16 teams is too much, but I definitely wouldn't mind seeing 8 to 12 teams . . . I mean honestly, do people think resting a team for a month and then playing for the National Championship is smart? Not me, its the only sport that takes a month vacation after the season before playing in the biggest game of the year. Never made sense to me, a playoff would eliminate that.

I mean I think u give 6 automatic bids to the winners of the 6 BCS conferences . . . the 4 highest ranked champions get a bye week . . . the other 2 would have to play in a wild card weekend with 6 wildcard teams. From there u run it like the NFL playoffs. So I guess it would go like this (Assuming Bama, Oklahoma and Va Tech win this weekend . . . but we wont drop Florida's ranking for the hell of it).

1. Alabama
BYE

8. Florida
9. Utah

4. Penn State
BYE

5. Cincinnati
12. Ohio State

-----------------------------------------------

3. USC
BYE

6. Virginia Tech
11. Boise State

7. Texas
10. Texas Tech

2. Oklahoma
BYE

I mean its crazy that the bottom half has the 3 big 12 powerhouses (and the top half has teh SEC and Big 10 teams . . . just happened to work like that, but there will be kinks that need to be worked out) . . . but I still think this will be more exciting then waiting a month for one game. Yes teams like Ball State, Oklahoma State, Georgia, TCU . . . they will still be upset . . . but u know, outside of Ball State those teams have 2 and 3 losses . . . they shouldn't be allowed regardless. Maybe a undefeated team can get some sort of special invitation . . . I imean obviously the kinks would need to be worked out . . . but I definetly think a college football playoff system would bring college football to a whole new level. And is the ONLY way for a team like Boise or Utah to get a chance at the National title.

They're 2-2 in BCS games the last 5 seasons. Go back one more they're 3-2 with one National Championship. They get a bad reputation because they've been blown out the last two years. Oklahoma I think has lost their last 5 BCS games.

If Boise St. and Utah deserve in then why does Ball St not deserve a bid? It definately is all about money. I think Boise St, Utah, Ball St are all good teams. Just not as good as some of the teams at the top. It won't be proved on the field which is a shame.

To some extent the BCS does get people talking and interested in CFB. Just like Charlie Weis failing has people talking about Notre Dame. Odd that every season it seems like anything that could get messed up is messed up. Even last season other teams had just as much right as LSU in the title game.

This will never be changed but I don't like the USC got basically a home nat'l championship game to Texas a few years ago. It's worked out for LSU also.

The only issue I would have is that the non BCS team that's ranked in the top 10 would have to be undefeated in order to bump a potential 1 loss BCS team out....

Boise St., Utah, Ball St., etc......sure they can play with the big boys for one game...it's been proven...(Oklahoma/Boise St. etc..)

But it still doesn't prove who the better team is....it only proves who played better on that day or who got the break that leads to a 1 point, trick play victory.

How many losses would the undefeated non BCS teams have if they played the guantlet of a schedule that the BCS teams play?

Here's my scenario...

The conferences that are divided into two divisions.....do away with the divisions...

Every conference have a championship game...let the two best teams in each conference play each other for the conference title...reguardless of division...

Take the 6 BCS conference winners...and the non BCS conference winners..and seed them according to BCS ranking...

...and have a ****ing playoff for cryin out loud...

Why is that a bad thing? Please go look at Boise States and Utah's schedule. If they had lost a game, you'd think they'd be deserving?

you have to do 8 teams. no more no less. doing a 6 team is to little an allows teams to get byes, which in its self will create arguement of who should of gotten a bye. 16 teams is 2 much. will take away from the regular season and have teams in competition for the championship that doesnt deserve it..

week 1
#1 vs. #8
#2 vs. #7
#3 vs. #6
#4 vs. #5

week 2
#1 or 8 vs. #4 or #5
#2 or 7 vs. #3 or #6

Championship
#1,8,4 or 5 vs. #2,7,3, or 6

no byes. no complaining about it. nothing. about the only thing it leaves to complain about it is outside of 8 looking to be eight. but its a lot less legitamate arguement as a 13-0 team being left at 4 or 5 and not making it.

Utah and Boise St. currently have a harder SOS than Alabama. I could live with top 8 teams. Ohio St. has sat for like 50 days the last two seasons waiting for their bowl game. I don't think that helps any team.

If it's top 8 I think conference champion should be thrown out. College presidents would hate that and never go for it. This suggestion gives 'Bama nothing to play for this week vs Florida. Though I would argue that Oklahoma lost to KState and still got into the BCS championship game.

Awesome ideas guys.

Any thoughts on the Cotton Bowl game possibly becoming a BCS game in the future, seeing as it's being moved to the new Dallas stadium?
