I haven't heard anybody talk about D.J. Shockley as a possible pickup in next year's draft. Assuming we go by best player available, couldn't we get him in the 2nd or 3rd round? I've liked what I've seen of him so far. Anybody have any thoughts about him or his future??

Shockley at this point probably an early 2nd day pick.

He's got the arm, mobility and can be accurate with time. Not the best decision making under pressure from what I've seen. That's his downside I think.

If he's available in the 4th round that's a no-brainer.

Well the decision making can be worked on. This is only his first year as a starter as I'm sure you know, so we can only expect that to improve. He's also playing in an extremely difficult conference, and I think he could be a steal in the draft.

I would spend a 5th maybe 4th round pick on him if he was there.

Side note: Can everybody who posts in this thread please not say "We don't need another RB" It doesn't further the thread at all.

he will be chosen like 6th round hes no big deal

He's impressed me so far. I'm sure he'll be selected higher than the 6th round. He's pretty talented.

Honestly...is Vince Young that better than him? I think they're pretty similar and I'm sure Saban knows a thing or two about him, because I'm sure he prepared for him even though Shockley was a backup. I mean think about it, Shockley would have Georgia undefeated if he stayed healthy throughout the year. That's pretty impressive.

Another guy that nobody seems to be talking about is Drew Olsen...
I'm a Texas fan and love Vince Young but the fact is, good qb's don't come from the Big 12,
if you are a succesful qb in the Pac 10, chances are you can find success in the NFL (unless Jeff Tedford was your coach)
I think Olsen could be a real steal if he had a few years to develop

Agree with that -- coaching can improve the decision making and he probably could be a steal with only one year starting b4 he's in the draft. He is a bit of a gamble if we pick early in the second.

I don't think it's fair to handcuff an entire conference like that, but judging from the past you are correct. I'd rather judge on an individual's talent than by their conference's history, but it's also good to check their conference too. That said, the SEC has given us some good QB's, and that's where Shockley is from.

i'm actually kinda curious now...anyone have a scouting report on Olsen...
i see he's listed at 6'3, it isn't 6'5 but it's doable -
i know he didn't really make a name for himself before this season, but neither did Carson Palmer till his senior year..

YEAR CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT 2005 218 322 2909 67.7 9.03 91 30 3 19 172.47
not bad numbers, especially that int/t.d. ratio

the number this past weekend against asu - 22 of 27, 510yds. passing, 5 td's no int's, 158.3 rating

Shockley is a great QB that no one has talked about this year in college. I'm a student at UGA and even im iffy about taking him for the NFL. Everything he does is in the games this year is amazing hes had two crucial picks but other than that he looks just as good as any other QB in the draft next year. His numbers are a little off on the season bc he missed two games and by the way each game (and ive been to every one) there has been at least 5 drops on as good of deep passes ive seen anyone throw. hes got the arm the mobility the accuracy the power and hes a scholar athlete so hes got the brains. Even with all this said I dont even know if i can be on the bandwagon but i couldnt tell you why.. I would take him in the 4 just bc Saban drafted so good last year im sure he could improve and pick up a starter on defense (secondary) like he did last year in the 3rd like he did with Crowder.
