Colt's Ellis Johnson released

I like Dolphinators answer. He is in the conversation, but hasn't really chosen a side. Way to fit in bro!! Anyways, I say no. I haven't seen him play much, but he plays a position we are stacked at. Barring any major injuries to any of our players, I simply don't see it happening......

Maybe, he was Gator, and worked well with Chester in Indy a couple of years ago. He is somewhat injury prone(some of his injuries were caused in games against us).
However if Gardener's back acts up again I see him rejoining Spurrier in the Maryland suburbs of D.C.

He doesn't fit our scheme...he is a quick penetrating DT and as you all know we use huge run stuffing DT to keep off our blockers and for an inside push we shift big DE's inside to give quick inside pressure.

WHAT??

All DT's are to penetrate my man!! That's how they get the double teams and occupy blockers!!BOWENS and GARDENER penetrated last season when healthy(SOUNDS LIKE A PORNO)!! As for BIG DE's I wouldn't call JT big, maybe speedy DE's is a better fit!! The defensive linemen all have different stunts and assignments and I think ELLIS JOHNSON would fit the PHINS quite nicely!

I don't know if he'd fit us, in fact I don't think he would (he'd be a better 4th than Grant, Taylor, or Romero though I guess), however Phinmaster is for the most part right. Bowens is good cuz he collapses the pocket and pushes. Gardener was good because he could make it past most offensive linemen's single blocks (he was slippery and powerful, not necessarily a pusher). Bowens was not a sack man however because he could move his linemen back and disrupt plays but he couldn't slip PAST linemen...

A DL has GAP RESPONSIBILITY or slant to the strong side or depending on the Defensive Coordinator's call but most of the time they must NOT get blown off the ball and disrupt the play!!

I disagree wholeheartedly...our DT are not supposed to be leaving the middle at all! they're one and only responsibility is to occupy blockers and keep the contain on any cutbacks....they are no situation supposed to leave contain on run downs...by the time they see it's not a run down it would be real hard to pass rush.

I stick by he doesn't fit our scheme...I meant no to pick him up because he's gonna want to play and he wouldn't play alot here being the 4th DT. But yes, he's be a better 4th DT than those guys.

Please read my post again, and you'll see I said we put our big DE's inside to pass rush...ie to the DT spot like oh, I don't, Jay williams, Rob Burnett, Kenny Mixon, and on and on.

DUDE???

Who said anything about the DT's leaving the middle??? Their only responsibility is NOT to just occupy blockers, their first responsibilty is to penetrate and stop the ball carrier!!! If the QB drops back to pass then it becomes a pass rush!!! Your DE comeents I have NO CLUE what your point is!!

I really doubt that we will go after Ellis Johnson. If we need to fortify any area right now I think it is depth at O-LINE. I'm really hoping a decent tackle falls our way. Alot has been posted on Jeff Ogden. I never felt that strongly about him either way but felt as the coaches did that he was a reliable punt returner. After all the times he fumbled last year I'd say he's a liability, he also lacks any breakaway threat on punt returns. As a reciever the guy isn't worth a roster spot IMO. I'd say keep Robert Baker and put Johnson on the PS.
