Colts War Room reacts to the Dolphins selecting Grant and passing on Warren.

Broncos wanted Loveland. Completely different TEs, on is a flex the other in a Y. They never wanted Warren as he is a Y. Payton loves flex types and they wanted Loveland.
The Broncos needed a Y more than they needed a flex. They signed Evan Engram a month earlier, who is also a flex.

Warren going to be such a bust, the generational talk is comical. He’s a slightly above average wideout and a solid, not great blocker. Penn State ran their entire offense through him since Drew Allar couldn’t read a defense. Won’t be anywhere close to as successful in the nfl. Guess Indy is a good place since Richardson can’t either but the way they used Warren in college won’t be nearly as successful in the nfl. Never seen a team so excited to draft Anthony Fasano 2.0
Don't insult Fasano to make a point. He could outblock Warren by a mile on his worst day.

That’s true lol we need a fasano back but you’d think Warren is some great blocker when he’s really not. He’s got a mean streak and it shows at times but he’s not very consistent. His run blocking grade from pff is pretty shitty

Well, I am thankful the Dolphins decided not to draft based on what the team picking after them would do.

Gives a whole new meaning to BPA.

It’s kind of a colt trait to have really a lot of bad picks with a few decent one sprinkled in. Remember Mel Kiper made his career on the colts when they took Trev Albert’s over Dilfer one year. The exchange between Kiper and Tobin was legendary afterward on during the draft . I think Albert’s lasted a couple seasons before shoulder injuries which he had in college ended his career. Dilfer while not a world beater did win a Super Bowl
Someone else who badly wanted Trev Alberts that year was none other than Don Shula. He tried in vain to move up high enough to take him. Miami began the draft at 16, and Alberts went 5th. When he could not find a willing trade partner, he traded down from 16 to 20, and took, drum roll please...Tim Bowens. Sometimes, the best trades are the ones you don't make. Oh yeah, if Green Bay had not wanted to move up to 16, Shula would have taken Bowens there. Their internal intel led them to believe the Bears had Bowens targeted in the 2nd, so they did not want to risk moving down too far, just in case the Bears panicked and traded up ahead of them.

While I think Warren will be a fine player, you don't build with a TE, ala Atlanta.

Like a good portfolio, you build with a good foundation, ala Philly.

Maybe Grier learned?
Alamosa Bill agrees with you.

Legendary lmfao, Bermans face at the end like wtf I can’t believe you said that

Mel had glaring errors back then, too. Jim Harbaugh was a thorn in our side as the Colts' QB. Much better QB than Dilfer, it seems, based on my recollection.
The Tobin bros were considered solid talent evaluators back then. Bill's son Duke, is the Director of Player Personnel for Cincy and has been for many years, and IMO is one of the better talent evaluators working today.

The article is nothing more than click bate… which is what 99% of sports media is about nowadays.

I was very vocal in how much I liked Warren. I also think Grant was a great pick. There were arguments to draft OL, DL, DB, and TE with that first pick. The Colts were happy, IMO, because they got their guy. That has nothing to do with the Dolphins. If they were laughing at the expense of the Dolphins (which I don’t think they were) I’d have to ask why. The Dolphins had the choice to pick Warren, and didn’t. How is that some sort of great move by the Colts and why would they laugh at the Dolphins?

Maybe ALL interviews of athletes are like this, but seriously they were smelling their own fingers on this one! “what were you thinking when you… “ I mean softball much??? “ I was thinking about what kinda pizza I was gonna eat after seeing my girlfriend later that night”.. I mean seriously is that a real wining interview? He seemed like a regular guy - “well I look at where the safety is..” like is that special???

Yes but Payton still wanted Loveland. There was mutiple reports that he/Denver liked Loveland. Payton doesn't use the Y much especially in the pass game.

Loveland can also play slot and outside WR. He was rated as the best TE by a very good margin before last season. Then obviously Warren had a monster year and Loveland had some injuries. But before the injuries, Loveland was still putting up good number despite Michigan have zero top WRs (Loveland got double coverage all day) and Michigan had like HS level QB play.
