You know I handle the Henne bashing and kicking the OL tires but some of you guys I swear just are lost.
Carey is now the worst offensive lineman on the team according to some of the fans here.
Channing Crowder the worst ILB last year.
Lets rewind 3 years ago and these were some of the very best players on the team that the fans were yakking about.
While I have been disappointed in the OL play no doubt and all the effort we have put into it and I cannot blame some of the complaining this team has made major strides in almost every other area.
Weather you agree with it or not as for using a 1st round pick Long has made this offensive line a force just with his presence. Everyone is bellying aching about Gardner suddenly who was the toast of this site 2 years ago. Tell you what the offensive line has improve. Yea Grove and Smiley did not work out long term like we hope but short term that they have made a difference. If Murtha has turned the corner which it is appearing he has now we might have something to work with, Pouncey really appears to be making a upgrade.
Really when you get down to it there are 3 areas that are debatable right now.
Is Daboll an improvement over Henning.
Daniel Thomas, Bush and Hillard a improvemnt over Ricky and Ronnie.
Has Henne improved and Moore a better backup than Thigpen?
Well Daboll was spreading the ball around last night which is suppose to help Henne progress. Tim will tell.
Daniel Thomas looks to be coming on a bit. It was interesting to read the that at least 2 of the picks taken ahead of him this year in the draft are already out injured for the year. Leshure and Ryan.
Last night observations Henne still has a ways to go instead of just moving the ball down the field throwing TD's in the end zone. Reggie Bush made a huge difference now its time to bench him to save those performances for the season.
Gates will make a difference spreading the field and IMO Henne will end up getting the ball to him a few times this year.
So going into this year the laundry list read spread the field. Looks line they are trying.
Henning needed to go. Mission accomplished weather Daboll is an upgrade to be determined.
Improve Special Teams- Improved so far but could make bigger strides IMO!
Offensive line needed to be improved= Barring a bad injury to Long with the drafting of Pouncy and if Murtha is progressing then we are getting there.
Sporano playcalling/ time mgt- to be determined
Improved QB play-This is the sticking point of the enitre fan base I am not even going there for now but IMO Henne is in a position with the spread offense to improve his play and it is going to take some time to break some old habits he has been programmed to perform under Check down Chad P and Henning.
Look we beat the last 2 Super Bowl Champs here at home the last couple of years in the Saints and the Steelers with Henne at the helm the score may not show it but the refs made the wrong calls.
Yea I disagree with some of the nay sayers that say we can't do it because we have we can.
The huge issues with this team is Sporano lost the team the last game of the year that is huge and it will take more than just this year to make that go away even if we do win.
Henne was benched thrown around like a rag doll by this team the fans and the media how well will he bounce is the issue. Regardless of how well he plays this year he needs a change of senery away from Miami. Hopefully we can draft that rookie QB star everyone is clamoring about next year and he can play well enough to get us over the hump.
In the meanwhile Ireland has put this team together through the college draft and college FA. Thats how you build a team in the long term.
Ireland needs to improve the NFL free agent portion of his game. This year Burnett IMO was a better step, Bush we shall see but this year he did not make any big signings like in years past that broke the bank and turned out not to be long term difference makers as in years past. Of course Dansby, Marshall and Starks signing were busts were they not oops sounds like I want our phins to suceed.
