I keep reading people here making excuses for our sit back and wait approach this year in Free Agency. If we sit back any pray to get a diamond in the rough, we'll lose out for sure. Too many teams in the league are diving in head first and taking the talent; some for too much, but some for a reasonable cost that we could've competed with.

At WR..whether these guys are old or not, doesn't change the fact that our corners are good at best(when they're healthy). And judging by the fact that we haven't improved our pass rush thus far in free agency, and that we haven't gone after any of the available receivers that now play for our Divisional opponents, we are in for a rough time against all of them.

If anyone here thinks that the Patriots are Patsies...think again, if Brady is healthy, they will run away from the rest of the Divivsion, and we'll be lucky to finish 3rd. Why? we have the 2nd toughest schedule this year, and we haven't made any major improvements on either side of the line.
If you think Fred Taylor, Joey Galloway and maybe even Jason Taylor are
are through, tune in this year, we'll find out pretty quickly.

For our Phins, no impact players have been added to date, and to rely on a drafted player this year to provide any impact, plays against the odds, so forget it. Pennington needs a go-to receiver like Holt who is now a free agent, or Boldin whom I'd trade a #2 for any day of the week. How about making a bold move for both?!

We have to have a solid DT added to, so goes Jason Ferguson, so goes the defense. A couple more CB's and a veteran DE and OLB are a must.

Our present team will be lucky to pull off 7 or 8 wins, because currently we can't score more points than many of our opponents, and they'll be scoring at random on us if there isn't much more improvments on "D" and our offense can't move the ball due to its poor receiving corps, and nobody can realistically think our rushing attack will take over any game.

I'm still holding out hope, that the Tuna will somehow pull off another Pennington pickup like last year, however, nobody can provide a boost as much as a QB, so you can't expect too much from any one other person.

So Come on Tuna and Ireland. Do Something soon eh!

Peace Out!

How many years have the Redskins jump in and taken the talent since synder's taking over the skins.. How many championships do they have under him again? Pittsburg hasn't taken what talent over the last fews years..and how many championships do they have over the last 5 years?
Why is it the pittsbury steelers and NE, and philly always seem to have a lot of cap space every year? Think about it before you respond...and oh yea..isn't their teams pretty competitive every year.. Look at how many talented players baltimore just release, I bet they're competitive next year too. All of they were home grown...and neither them or NE or Pittsburg are over paying for any FA's this year, they build winning teams and FA's take a discount to be there.. Hmmm.. can we say start a winning tradition here may do the same?

Well we have made improvements. Diamonds as you call them mostly come from the draft. there are few players in any free agent movement with a better impact on a team such as what Pennington did for us last year. I would say from the top of my head that Michael Turner would be the only other high impact free agent pick up.

Our biggest concern should be the trenches. Our Pass rush is a concern but we have addressed some of the concerns with our O- line... that should make our reciever corps better. But it is all speculation until kick off during every game this comming season.

I definately want FA's for the excitement of them but really I want BP et al to have us win... this comming year anything above 8 is fine for me because I trust that several pieces will be picked up in the draft and the team will continue to develope... if we go 8 and 8 with this schedule the chances will be that our schedule in 2010 will not be so tough and maybe... just maybe we will win it all when the SB is in MIAMI...

Just my thaughts...

Man...I am so tired of all these Miami ain't doing nothing threads. Miami has been very active and signed what five, six or seven guys...including our own FA's. We can't sign every FA on the market. Be happy with what we are doing. The FO has a plan and let them run it!

The fact is, if they signed Jason Taylor and Ken Lucas, we could draft BPA through the whole draft.

The Dolphins don't need to draft a WR. The Dolphins have more WR's than they know what to do with. However if a super athlete like Jared Cook fell to the #44, they could draft him as aWR/TE because they didn't NEED to draft an OLB or a CB with the pick.

It has too be at least a little tempting to trade Ricky Williams and spend that 3.5 mil in cap somewhere else. Besides. Ricky might like to go to AZ and be the number 1 guy.

According to a lot of mocks I've seen, Chrs Wells will slide to the 25th spot.

Apparently you missed the Wannstedt years when we "went fishing" every free agency period only to wind up empty handed when it was time to play the games while some other team ran away with the big catch:err:
No thanks! I'll let the guy who's built a winner everywhere he's been do his thing and build through the draft because quite frankly...the way you are suggesting has been tried around here many times and the end result has always been :grapeape:

For the most part, the waters have been too murky and the stock too puny to waste much valuable bait or time trolling .

Man, I'm so sick and tired of people who think that just because we overachieved last season, that the same results will happen again this year. Chad can't work too many miracles, and no team will be surprise by the Wildcat formations this time.

So far we haven't improved out D line at all. And with all the big name receivers to hit the wire, we haven't landed any of them. The draft won't help us much this year. We're not drafting a running back, we're good there, and no other player will have a bigger impact in their rookie season than a rb.

This front office isn't void of mistakes...I recall them overpaying for Wilford last season....As a Canes fan too, I knew that guy sucked before he was even drafted out of V-Tech. If we don't pick up a WR who can help the O spread the defenses, we will be done this season. Camarillo is a good slot receiver, NOT a legitimate starter, Ginn is only an average #2 right now. Odds of us drafting our #1 WR for this season isn't realistic. That's why a seasoned Vet like Galloway, Holt, or a trade for Boldin is a must.
That's not being like the Redskins, none of those guys dictate huge salaries.

However WR aside, if we can't run the ball, stop the run and control the clock against teams on our schedule that will be tougher this year (based on our schedule), we're in for a looong season.

But Hey, the Tuna and Ireland know that, so left see what they do right?

In Tuna we trust Right?!

Cheers!

btw...if you don't like the Miami doing nothing threads(which I never said), then how about posting Nice Happy threads on how well you think they're doing ok.

Well, since you chose a few teams, let me add some too...

Hmmm lets see....

Big time Free Agent Signing that Impacted their teams.....

1. Reggie White....GB Super Bowl Champ
2. Deon Sanders....SF and Dallas SB Champ
3. Shannon Sharp....Baltimore SB Champ
4. Charles Haley....Dallas SB Champ
5 Once upon a time Paul Warfield Miami Super Bowl Champs
6 Randy Moss to Patriots for a what a 4th round pick?!

How much better would our teams of the 90's been with White or Haley terrorizing offenses, or Deon patrolling the secondary, or a huge target like Sharp for Marino to throw to?!

Don't tell me a season can't come down to one player, without Warfield we don't win either of our two Championships....and WE DIDN"T DRAFT HIM and he was a SEASONED VETERAN like a Holt or Galloway! We gave up a #1 for Shula, and a #1 for Warfield. Sure the draft is where you build your team, I totally agree with that, but sometimes you have to go after the big fish to really put your team over the top, or on the way to that end.

Hey, we had a tradition of winning seasons under Shula, but that was it, we were a better than average team that always lost in the playoffs.
Why didn't we trade for a big-time running back over those years to help Dan out? Why didn't Shula build up the Defense? Why did we trade away Anthony Carter for a scrub of a LB from Minn? Why wasn't I drafting players for this team, because our guys sucked 95% of the time.

Like most, I've been very pleased with our 2008 draft picks, and I'm sure we'll ad to that, but to be competitive this year with teams in our division that have improved to their teams already, we have to fill out our glaring needs at WR, Pass rusher, and at least two more solid Corners to offset the great receivers in our division.

Cheers!

There is a saying you have to spend money to make money.

Seems like some are more interested in waking up and being able to read news about the Phins than anything else.

Regarding Warfield, first off, he wasn't a free agent. Second, he was 28 at the time of the trade, unlike Holt (32) and Galloway (37!). That comparison doesn't hold water.

There were very few if any quality FAs that would fill those holes you mention, at least not at a reasonable price. Sorry, but we're not one player away.

This may be the first post I disagree with everything.

1. Dont need a past it ball room dancer.
2. I think they will draft at WR around the mid rounds. Not just for this year but the 3rd year bump receivers seem to have.
3. Ronnie and Ricky is a 1/2 punch that works well for the O. You dont throw that out on the off chance you draft a RB high in the rounds
4. Wells isnt sliding to 25 and if he did we wont spend that kind of money on a back up.

My Humble opinion.

Pitt, Giants, Colts, Pitt, Pats, Pats, Bucs, Pats, Ravens. 01-current SB winners. These teams, especially the Colts, build threw the draft. Look at how many 1st round picks during the SB year were offensive starters for Indy, they don't hardly miss. The Pats pickup vet FA's to fill a few gaps and bring leadership. And they haven't won a SB since picking up Moss. Building threw the draft and signing solid FA's like Grove and Wilson, and not the offseason hype, seems like the right way to do things.

Let me sum this up. With about $12 million in cap room, you want the Dolphins to sign Boldin, who will command @ least $8 million, Holt, a couple free agent cornerbacks, a free agent de and a free agent linebacker...PLUS have money left over to sign all the rookies, right? That'll have us about $10 million OVER the cap. This isn't fantasy football bro.
