Commentary: Breaking Expectations

My hand remains up. :D

Good stuff, though. Especially about the Mexico City game, which, I agree, was a preposterous idea, even if the Cardinals can't draw flies at home. Not only is the altitude 1.5 miles high, but as an added bonus, the air pollution in Mexico City makes anything you've seen from Los Angeles or Houston look positively healthy by comparison. It's so thick that skyscrapers disappear in a haze after 30 or so stories.

So to recap: extremely thin air + choking air pollution + 300+ pound linemen exerting themselves = potential for SERIOUS problems.

Both articles are excellent and should definitely be forwarded to NFL headquarters....Being columnists, you should have a little more influence than the rest of us Peons.....Just do it, please.....

Our "columnist" tags, together with $2, will get us a large coffee at Starbucks. But thanks for the love. :)

And in fact, I'm fairly certain the NFL thought this stuff through. Here's the thing: Paul Tagliabue isn't just a smart guy, he's the former attorney for the league, and he's very concerned about the NFL getting sued. Why do you think that personal searches are widely used before games now? If some psycho gets a bomb into the stadium and blows up sections 126-128, the league would face a hefty lawsuit and severe scrutiny (and oh yeah, feel pretty bad about a couple thousand people dying). So Tags is on the watch for these things.

Chances are, they weighed the risk of playing games there against the risk of players having severe health problems and the liability that would ensue. I just think they reached the wrong conclusion, but I'm sure they gave it lots of thought.

A large coffee? That's all? I was hoping for at least one of their blueberry-frappa-wappa-green-tea-pepperoni-pizza-coconut-lattes...that's disappointing...

thanks for the writeup ! I can't remember a road victory this year...

and New England suddenly looks beatable, having lost to a team Miami beat on the road and a 1-2 team at home.

Sorry...confusing structure there. Should have been "New England lost on the road to a team Miami beat". I could go back and fix it, but I'm lazy.
