Commentary: Brees, Please

Nice article. I'd only add that Culpepper has a history of some run-in's with his own players and tendencies toward temper tandrums, whereas Brees is very team oriented if what I've read about him is true. I have to wonder if this indicates that Brees is more coachable than Culpepper? Makes me wonder. This is probably an issue that Saban & Co. consider, IMO.

Very impresive article. And from a high school kid no less!!

nice read.

i have a ?. So, it Brees officially a free agent? I believe that the deadline has passed for San Diego to tag him....correct? But does San Diego have a week to sign him?

what's the deal.

Go Fins!!!

Very good job, actually enjoyed reading it. One thing I thought of while reading it, and was looking for, was some mention of Culpeppers character issues. He has shown by his recent behavior that he doesn't always use sound judgement and lord knows we have enough of that with the RW story. IMO Brees has his mind and priorities in the right place, at least up until now.

I would be awesome if we got Brees for nothing. I would be estatic. It would really give us some options in the draft as well.

nice. very well said.

Does anyone have an idea of what other teams are considering a play for Brees? obviously lots of teams need qb's, but i havent heard any other teams mentioned like we have been.

Brees is not a free agent until 3/2. The Bolts have a week to sign him ,and they are still negotiating. You guys need to keep in mind that many feel Brees desperately wants to stay a Bolt. But I think this articles was dead on: he is insulted by the initial offer. THe Bolts FO is saying that they won't budge much. But it's possible that they have a plan B going on.

They were originally going to Transition Tag, but then they learned that since they franchised tagged him last year, his contract under the transition tag would still be guaranteed.

So there is a school of thought out there that the Bolts are thinking that there won't be a lot of guaranteed money out there for Brees in 2006, given the injury. And if there's not, then Brees would likely come back and sign the Bolts offer. Or they can let the market set his value, which may be lower than what he is asking for. The Bolts may be willing to match that, and may believe that he would stay with the Bolts because of his strong allegance to his teammates.

It's all speculation - but's it's not over with the Bolts - even after 3/2, IMO.

I think your piece was well done...

The only thing I would say is that I read the link to Culpepper's situation. It didn't say anywhere in that piece that Wilf told CUlpepper that his spot is secure. It only said that Culpepper said that they told him that they haven't talked to any suitors yet. It didn't say they wouldn't. And it didn't say they wouldn't release him. In fact, the Vikes FO had no comment.

So I wouldn't go as far to call that a vote of confidence.

Good read, though. Keep 'em coming!
