The defense is getting younger. We got a young secondary and quite a bit of DL with potential that are going to be in rotation if starting (Matt Roth, I think). Miami filled a lot of holes and needs with talented players and get players. But did not pick up needs just fot he hecl of it. It's pointless if you are getting all these other talented players for others needs to get another need position after the postion that is thin with talent has gone down by the late rounds. I mean you casn get some in the 6th or seventh, but for the most part they will just be special team players or practive squad material. But with Miami filling many of their needs this year with talent, they will have more freedom and have to worry about less holes to fill so they can draft a top lb or DE in next years draft.

Without Taylor and Thomas, Miami's defense looks very bland.. Average at best .

take LT and antonio gates out of san diago and their offense will be average too, if you take the top 2 players from one side of a team of course they aren't going to be nearly as good.

No worries. We have a young secondary. I think Jason Allen is going to shine this year. (remember Saban basically said the guy was one of only 15 premium players in last years draft) He has great measurables. He has great size and speed especially great size if he is a corner. He made a TON of plays in college before he was injured. he is now almost three year removed from an injury. The guy was a leader too. I'm going to trust Saban on this one cause he did A PRETTY DAMN GOOD JOB OF DRAFTING FOR US - no matter if you hate him or not. The guy was didn't play cause SABAN was pissed over his holdout (which also put him behind in the playbook) - as reflected by Huizingas remarks heading into the draft about holdouts. He is like a free 1st round pick for us this year. team him with Allen and we have two young, fast, very good tacklers at corner, with a solid Daniels at nickel. Hill and Bell are under 30 - and this guy Pope runs a 4.29 if he works out (he played at a small college and only a couple years - so he went undrafted - some thought he might go as high as the second round!) so no worries in the secondary

Along the Defensive line we have Soliai - he is going to be a player. Roth will be a beast this year. Holliday who is only 30. Then R. Wright - who would have been a first rounder before he played with an injured shoulder and needed to sit a year before he could play in the NFL. Both coaching staffs seem to like Fred Evans as well. So we are suddenly pretty young and talented along the DL

Linebacker might be another story but we are more than fine right now! We need to find somebody next year to play behind Zach who is probably fine at least 2 more years the way he plays and takes care of himself- this guy could be Clay Mathews - and speed isn't a huge part of his game anyways - last year was his best as a dolphin! Porter is fine for at least 2-3 years and Taylor is fine for 2 more. We picked up some guys that were VERY productive in college to fill in behind these three guys as it is - Bruce behind Taylor (we have Biamilla there as well) A Wright behind Porter (Bruce and Wright had 50 sacks the last two years in college). Smith behind Zach. If ANY of these guys turns out to be a player/gem like Zach did we are WAY ahead of the game! otherwise we spend 3-4 first second or third rounders in the next three years on these positions and we are fine!

The perception is that our defense is old. It's not the average age of our starters this year is 28.8 years. If Soliai starts for Traylor which very well could be the case the age drops to 27.4 years. All of a sudden we have one of the BEST YOUNG defenses in the NFL!

Average? They are probably terrible lol

You can't just say this defense is only Zach and Taylor this year - we are young and we are a top five defense. I think we will have the best defense in the league this year. This is the most talented Dolphins team we have had in 15 years. Ricky, R. Brown out of the backfield - Green, Cpep, or Beck (whoever is the best option is STILL the best qb we have had since Marino by default) Chambers (probowl for a reason - no fluke - you will finally see whats been holding him back) Ginn - future probowls, Booker (probowler in the past for a reason, and our best receiver at times last year) These guys just need somebody to spread the field. Martin is going to be better than McMichael. and our best line play in many years -

What does it all lead to? A BETTER DEFENSE. We are younger, one more year in Capers system - finally a complete defensive roster with players that fit the system (Porter in - Zgonina out). And an offense that will put points on the board and control the ball with Ricky/Ronnie. Now our defense will be fresh and playing with a lead! We will be able to do what a 3-4 is designed to do GET AFTER the QB! Which will mean more turnovers and an even fresher defense and more points for our offense......

Our defense was 2nd in the league in yards per play against last year - yet they faced more plays than all but 10 teams. AND WE STILL HAD THE 4TH BEST SCORING DEFENSE AND 5TH BEST YARDS AGAINST in the league. That means we were much better than it seems! Then we added Porter and some young talent

HMMMMMM....all of a sudden we aren't looking too bad are we? There are Superbowl teams in the past that we have a better team today than they had. What about the St. Louis team that won a super bowl (didn't they win 3 games the year before? what happened? well they found a quarterback to run the same system (very similar) to what we run - and evidently they had some talent previously (which we do) and they put it all together with a good coach (which we have) .... and oh yeah SPEED...think we added some in the offseason ....just a little bit

Miami will be the most improved team in the NFL this year. We should make the playoffs. If Patriots, Colts, Chargers, Broncos, Ravens (i think we are better - but they should win division) werent as talented as they are ( and these are the most talented teams collectively the NFL has seen since the Cowboys/49ers/Packers teams. I would call us a superbowl team - we certainly have the defense and with Cam i feel our offense is going to be pretty damn good. We would be the class of the NFC including the bears.

Well if Saban said it, then it MUST be true! :sidelol:

I agree with you there lol good post :sidelol:

He did do a better job of drafting than Wanny or Speilman though....So I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt...and the guy was considered first round talent last year....plus everything I read about his playmaking and leadership ability was positive. That combined with some things I heard after Saban was gone about him holding a grudge and not wanting to play the guy. Plus we didnt draft a single DB....I'm guessing the guy can play. I even saw an article where Matt Roth said something to the effect that NOBODY was sad to see Saban go - then he said he didnt want to say too much cause he was grateful to be drafted by the guy.....but WOW that says Alot!!! He also said SABAN left so he could be in control...he didnt believe it was about helping kids etc..... SABAN had lost this team and he knew it

I like your optimism and agree with you 100%. We are a better team than what showed up last year. I like where this team is going and cannot wait to prove the doubters wrong. I am so excited, I can't even wait until summer is over, and it is my favorite season LOL.

I think if you asked JT or Zach as to why they get so much success on this D they will say its the surrounding players like Holiday and Crowder and Traylor who make the difference. Defense isnt about 2 players. You ask how they felt when they had Surtain and Madison as well. You surround yourself with GOOD players and the Pro Bowl players step up and make plays. Average? nope. Maybe our DB's are average now but D-Line and LB corp is top notch.
