Commentary: Diary of a Wager

Touchdown, Ricky Williams.

“Well, at least the Phins aren’t getting totally killed now.â€Â

Five plays and a short punt leading to prime field position.

“You know, if we score here….â€Â

Touchdown, Ronnie Brown, after an awesome catch-and-run featuring an Olympic hurdle-style vault over a DB.

“Holy schnikes, we might actually pull this one out!â€Â

Thats what I was thinking when I was at the game.

i was kinda surprised to see the line go from -3 to -5.5 at kickoff, however... especially considering Traylor was a late, late scratch.... i hopped on Bufalo, +5... Houston, also, for a decent week...

of course, i didn't get home in time to do my picks column... the one 3-1 week i finally have...

Nice wager there. Enjoy your wings and beer tomorrow. I used to do a similar beer bet with my brother in law the Bills fan. But lately, it's more just bragging rights. I've been trying to get ahold of him all week but he is nowhere to be found. Strange, we usually talk every day or 2. He'll say he's been busy with work, burt he has crawled under a rock somewhere with all the otehr Bills fans. I have been harassing him with emails conatining links to game recaps, monkey smileys peeing on the Bills logo, hore pooping on the Bills' helmet, etc.

Nice point you made about Sage at the end there. True, he wil probably move on unscathed like all other QB's who have followed Dan. And, he will always have that game of a lifetime to remember, watch and show friends and family!

It went higher than that here in Las Vegas. I looked at the screen Sunday morning and all of a sudden there were solid 6s. That was my take number against a favorite with a break even or losing won/loss record. I was shocked to be able to get 6. My friend who was walking the Strip found a 6.5.

Looks like there's another one of those lousy teams as a big favorite this week, the Packers giving 6.

BTW, there was money on the Dolphins today. The 14s disappeared down to 13.5 and I've even seen a couple of 13s.

probably because LT is banged up... but, really, Miami is just too inconsistent to be a safe bet week to week.... in my opinion.... one week they look like world beaters, the next week they can't even line up and take a snap....

lots of travel for them the past two weeks... and SD is crisp and mistake-free... scary game... i'd pass...

Thanks for the props, all! And, Awsi and others, glad you guys made some coin on this one. :)

Good job Phunwin. I could picture the Distillery all over again (going back to the days before NFL package). I watched the game at my friends house in Greece and as always, I tell him, "Dave, this game is not over."

And he replies, "oh it's over Gary."

Ten minutes later he is hugging me again like never before.

It is true about living in Rochester that you can listen to all the fans ***** and moan. One thing I have noticed over the years is that after a bad game, Bills fans lay it out for 3 days, then all of a sudden the mood changes to "I think we will win this next one" yadda yadda yadda. I don't think they will change this time around. Brad Davies and co. bashes the organization and says "why do we believe in these frauds?" but never realize that they are the ones who advertise and overplay the hype more than anyone else.

Great job Phun. I dig it totally.

I wonder, though, if this isn't the straw that broke the camel's back. Buffalo fans have been losing faith in Tom Donahoe for awhile, and Mike Mularkey really got off on the wrong foot. I remember when I was at the Phins/Bills game last year, a Bills fan said to me "I'll trade you Mularkey for Wannstedt". I responded, "no deal; we'll be rid of Wanny soon enough, but you'll be stuck with Mularkey for a couple more years." I think faith in that front office has been tenuous ever since they passed over BOTH Marv Lewis and John Fox for that job (which, I suppose, is sort of like dumping both Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston in high school).

Right now, I'd be very surprised if Donahoe is around next year. I'd put Mularkey's odds on survival at about 50-50.

I forgot to mention there's actually a second game this week with a below-.500 team giving 6 or more at home. Tennessee is -7 hosting Houston.
