Commentary: Supplemental Draft: Wright or Wrong?

Outstanding work, CK. So here's the $64,000 question. You're Nick Saban. Do you put in a 4th for him?

A 4th rounder sounds about (W)right. The guy has too much talent to let him go lower. Hopefully we get him and Saban puts a boot in his *** to make him work harder. I actually think the Eagles will put possibly a 2nd or more likely a 3rd on him and freeze us out on him. They have more patience to work with a guy like this and not stuff him into a rotation like we would have to.

personally, i like Wright but if we dont go for Wright we should go for the wideout from Clemson Roscoe, i forgot the last name. He looked good in some of the games i saw him in. Hes got hands, speed, and hops, but his vision isnt too great down the field, and he could use a little bit more break away speed and bulk up. Now about Wright i hope he is stronger than how he showed in his benches even though benching doesnt really show power that much its all about the squats. If he can squat alot of weight then hes got good low power force to push off Linemen and destroy the back field, upper strength is important but from the looks of it, his speed is great which could be a GREAT indication for a powerful lower body, he could be like a Warren Sapp, in the FUTURE i say WRIGHT is RIGHT for a 3rd pick, even though i like the wideout too.

does anybody know how many times matt roth put up 225?

I REMEMBER NOW CROSBY, Roscoe Crosby seems like he has a good head on his shoulders. We could always use that.

Boy, what to give for him. We're kind of in a tight on that call, huh? A 4th would probably be reasonable but may be unlikely to get hiim. Otoh, a 3rd, given our high draft order, is probably too much for a guy based solely on "potential"... Yet another look, we have this high draft pick available which would be taken from us in the 2006 draft, which, undoubtedly, will be far lower than #2 - should we take advantage of our high draft priority while we have it knowing that it will "cost" us less when it actually comes time to pay for it?

I wouldn't give anything higher than a 6th for Wright.

Roth did 26 reps at the Combine.

Jovan Haye of Vanderbuilt was tops with 33. David Pollack did 25. Shawn Merriman did 25. Marcus Spears did 15 (was he hurt??).

I truthfully have NO idea on what he is worth. I have not seen any of his game film, nor any of his workouts. Going on just what I have read I'd say a 4th. I just hope Saban does not go get him just to get him. Meaning if he is NOT sold on him being a stud, don't waste the pick. That sounds too much like our last GM.

I might be inclined to give a 4th round pick for him, but discipline is the key. Right now, the best measure of Wright's worthiness would be who we drafted in the round in question...at least to me.

So when you ask Channing Crowder or Manuel Wright, I say Channing Crowder. When you say Travis Daniels or Manuel Wright, I say Travis Daniels. So immediately that should mean spend a 5th rounder on him at most. But it is a position of need, so it is hard.

Maybe Wright wants to play in Miami, and the Dolphins said they will definately pick him if he has a ****ty workout, so other teams dont think hes good and the dolphins dont have to waste such a high pick. ITS ALL CONSPIRACY MAN, YOU GOTTA THNK!!!!!!!----Im j/k,....bored.

CK, that was a very good analysis, Wright for us, is a ? because, 1. We really don't know him. 2. He didn't start 3. Most of us didn't follow USC closely.
What we do know, you wrote it in your article. So is he a gap player or a 1 player, or can he play both. As you stated he's only been shown in the gap..so we have no idea of his 1 abilities, unless you take into consideration his reps with 225 lbs. That would suggest not a good 1 DT. Now looking back on his football career, his stats in limited play, his status coming out of HS, his size, his speed still makes him intriguing. Everytime the guy hit the football field, people knew it. Go back to his work out. ouch..go back to the football field, wow. I guess my question is more of do you want a workout king or a football player. For whatever reason his football prowless on the field didn't equate to his workout...We still are left with the question, can his guy be a beast in the NFL....or does his workout suggest burst. I can't shake the football to workout thing...My gut says he's a football player and will make a impact like he has at every level...forget the workout, everyone has a bad day. Can I be wrong, sure, but my gut says this maybe worth the risk..in life sometimes you have to take the risk for the high rewards.
