If the Raiders go for Calvin Johnson first overall, there is a possibility that JaMarcus Russell slides. Now while it is still kind of a stretch that he will slide all the way to us...it isn't out of the question.

Another great article Phunwin, keep it up.

Perhaps a chance we will trade up-otherwise....

Great article again. I agree that D-Mac right now is the only good FA at LT (unless Petitgout is healthy) and we should try to bring him back considering his relationship with Houck and Cameron. I think he can man the fort while Alabi gets ready for his last year of being a project or a guy like Joe Staley gets broken in. Signing a guy like Dielman seems like a must and an upgrade over James. I think whoever between James and Shelton agrees to take a paycut will stay, especially if a guy like Dielman is signed. McKinney, Jacox would be good depth if cheap.

But I disagree on the Culpepper thing. Sure the OL was bad but even Joey wasn't eating turf as much even before they made the LT swap. And Culpepper was playing the teams with arguably lesser D's. Daunte was on pace to set a record for times sacked and he's been sacked a lot in his career despite playing under an at worst decent OL. Not to mention fumble-itis. He does need to improve his decision making because he can't keep relying on scrambling. Good QBs use their heads and Culpepper's is questionable.

On a side note, I'm personally rooting for Toledo, a good acquaintance of mine, who I remember him saying he might try out LT for a bit. Certainly versatile enough to warrant a shot there. He's a good guy both on and off the field and I'd be stoked if he got a chance to start somewhere on the line.

Great article, thanks for the read. I am very proud to have Vernon Carey at RT, I hope he is not moved. He belongs at RT, and he is doing a great job.

A good article, alot of effort when into it. However, I was surprised you didn't mention Luke Petigout whom the Giants cut a few days ago in a cap move as a possible upgrade over Dmac at left Tackle. He's probably now the top LT in free Agency. Agree with you about Leonard Davis as a tackle, but he'd be a heck of a left guard. As a matter of fact, he was a dominating guard who the cardinals moved to tackle out of desparation. I don't think he's a natural Left Tackle. Anyways, great article...

I missed that. Alas, in prepping this article series, I've missed a few of the more recent free agent moves, despite my best efforts. However, Petitgout would be worth a look, but his recent injury history bugs me. But yes, you're right, he's definitely a better option than McIntosh.

 Thanks!

As for Russell, I don't seriously believe he'll be under center. I think you'll probably see Culpepper again, and if he's cut, Lemon would start with a prospect waiting in the wings (maybe Quinn, maybe Russell). I was just trying to cover all the possibilities. If Quinn can drop to 9, so can Russell. Those 4 guys are, I believe, the only ones with even a slim chance of QBing for Miami in 2007.

(Now watch Randy Mueller go out and swing a trade for Matt Schaub and make me look like a dope.)

Let's stop with the excuses for DC's propensity to take sacks. The O-line wasn't that bad, they were pretty average last year. I think the analysis was poor.

How much of a sack is the responsibility of a QB vs. the OL (and to a lesser extent, the receivers) is an age-old question that will long outlast any discussion we're going to have. The QB nearly always gets too much blame for a sack, just as he gets too much credit for avoiding them (see also: Harrington, Joey). In any event, it's one where pretty much everyone has made their mind up. Personally, I thought Fineas's analysis was dead-nuts-on, and I think a review of each of those sacks correctly shows that the OL was responsible for nearly all of them (the VIP version of the post contains gifs to show each play, just one of the many memberships of VIP membership ). You're welcome to draw your own conclusions.
