My first comment is that Mike McDaniel is a keeper. Back-to-back postseason appearance speaks for itself. There are definite areas where our head coach needs to improve his skills, but he has exceeded my initial expectations.

Fangio is the best defensive coordinator during the last 20 years. We really need to see the 2nd year to evaluate how well he does with the defense.

Bevel has done a good job with Tua. The last 2 years were better than I thought Tua would achieve. I am disappointed that Bevel has not been able to influence Tua not to press, but I have no complaints.

Butch Barry has been awesome. He got far more out of this OL group than I thought was possible. We will see if he can keep the growth going, but no complaints for this year.

There are definite concerns with McDaniel. He is good when it comes to play creation. He should create the game plan and then book, but have smith call the plays. Tua is not the type of quarterback that should pass the ball 40 times. You need to have a least one smash mouth runner and a decent TE.

McDaniel is still learning. It is what it is. Fangio knows what he’s doing. Our D was could win a SB pre injury debacle at the end. Bevel has indeed done a good job.

I've said it for some time now, Danny Crossman has to be replaced and he can take Jake Bailey with him.

We were 28th in PR coverage and last in KR coverage. Each of the last three seasons has been worse than the season before.

Other than that, we have a pretty good coaching staff. A couple of them will probably get promotions elsewhere, so there will be some change regardless.

I think that is a fair write up.

McD is a work in progress. Never been a full coordinator and is now finishing year two as a head coach. He has some warts but is smart enough to know how to fix them. The question is will his ego allow him to make those changes like giving up play calling? Only time will tell.

Fangio did about as well as he could in installing a new defense with the crippling injuries he had. He also inherited some players that don't fit his schemes which can only be fixed by time and future acquisitions.

Barry did a fantastic job with the assets handed him on the offensive line. He's the MVP of Miami coaches this season.

Tua has continued to improve each season which speaks well of Bevel.

I think the future is bright in Miami if the coaching staff stays introspective and has the willingness to make changes as needed and continue to grow.

I think I'd start to change my feelings about this team if we sought an OC in the same manner that we did Fangio. It would signal that McDaniel recognizes he has more on his plate during football games than allows for him to make every play call.

This team needs to add some bruisers on both sides of the LOS. I'd like to see a good TE who can block and catch.

Smythe is okay, but he's not a Gronk or a Kelce. The cream of the AFC crop are Buffalo, Baltimore, and KC, and they all have good TEs. They also are physical teams with decent o-lines, while Miami is a finesse team with a crappy o-line. Allen is Miami's kryptonite, and Saturday night we saw KC's o-line give Mahomes all night to throw and make plays. And Baltimore embarrassed Miami, making them look like a JV team.

Questions: Does McDaniel value the TE as a pass catcher? I think not. Will Grier finally build a tough, physical o-line? History says no freakin' way. Is Tua ever going to take over a game, or make the big play when everything is going wrong? Never. He plays scared, often sliding so he doesn't get hit rather than go for the 1st down.

IOW, changes need to be made from the top down in order for Miami to become a tough team that is able to compete with the best.

McDaniel needs to give up playcalling. This is the single most important change that needs to happen. He can draw up the plans come up with the original game plan but his in game adjustments are awful if the original plan doesn’t work. From his decision making of giving up on the run or calling for the homerun ball when the east first is there with the run. He also calls nothing to get his qb in sync. It’s 25 yard passes or screens 4 yards behind the line of scrimmage. Tua is one of the best most efficient rpo passers in the league yet McDaniels never calls it. Where’s the drags and curls in empty space in the zone? The 4-10 yard passes are non existent.
He falls in love with certain plays and tries to keep using them despite them not working. The end around toss forwards to our wideouts we used to run 4-5 times a game that would have been perfect for cold weather game, didn’t run them once. The shovel pass we tried once and went for a td, again perfect for cold weather windy games, didn’t call once. The fake handoff flip toss that either went for good yards or a 6 yard loss, how about we actually hand it off to make it believeable every once in a while…. Some **** was truly baffling which is crazy because some **** is brilliant while others are truly head-scratching how a coach that smart can be so dumb sometimes.
