This is a difficult thing to do. A year ago, we traded up to#3, and had higher picks but, thjis draft was much deeper. As no rookies played much las year, all we can do is look at who we think has more potential individually, and overall for the entire drafts.

Jordan at #3 vs James at #19

Taylor at #54 vs Landry at #63

Dallas at #77 vs Turner at # 67

Davis at #93 vs Aikens at #125

Jenkins at #104 vs Lynch at #155

Sims at #106 vs Tripp at # 171

Gilleslee at #164 vs Hazel at #190

Stuggis at #166 vs Feda at #234

James vs Knowing what to send on twitter

You can throw out the #1 pick if ya like as #3 vs #19 is not really fair. So which draft was better overall, and individually if ya kike?

The one thing that stood out at me last year was that Jeff Ireland honestly seemed to just be panic-drafting in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. "OH MY GOD CORNERBACKS ARE FLYING OFF THE BOARD" - trades up to reach on one.

Agree, another need reach but, I do like Taylor. Kinda strange that we took a CB, OL, LB, and TE in both.

This year you could tell there was a vision for this team, soli,d talented players with high character and leadership qualities, that's what we got, I couldn't be happier.

This draft had far more of a direction, but I'm not ready to give up on last year's draft. The rookies did nothing last year, but that doesn't mean they won't do anything this year.

One difference that you can't see on the comparison data shown is the reliability/health. This year's draft seems like it has a history of playing a lot of games and they may be more ready to contribute right away. Had last year's group been healthy and ready to fully participate the we might have got a lot more out of them.

Jordan at #3 vs James at #19- No doubt Jordan is the better player but James is healthy going into the offseason and fills a massive hole.

Taylor at #54 vs Landry at #63- I loved the Taylor pick last year and i think he shows me why this year. Landry may not see to much actionsunless rehad is slowed but a good pick either way.

Dallas at #77 vs Turner at # 67- I htink you will see a competition between these two guys for the starting Guard spot so we can make a decision there.

Davis at #93 vs Aikens at #125- These two will be competing against each other also. Big body vs speed player IMO could be a good competition.

Jenkins at #104 vs Tripp at #171- switched Lynch and tripp for the sake of campaing each to their position. I see tripp and jenkins both pushing our lackluster starters to take their jobs.

Sims at #106 vs Lynch at #155- I like sims here but lynch is more so to make Egnew sweat for his roster spot.

Gilleslee at #164 vs Hazel at #190- Both guys are on the outside looking in and may have to really push to get playing time. Hazel could be special down the road i believe.

Stuggis at #166 vs Feda at #234- Specials teamers here really. Fede wont push to start as DE, I would compare more to Don Jones but i wouldn't read mush into him.

True story. On talent and potential alone, I favor last year. We shall see.

Nice run down 123, agree on all. Guys from last year will have the advantage but, with Lazor and Benton, not as much as normal.

The comment about injury concern and readiness to play is very important. Essentially we have 2 drafts worth of guys that should be ready to compete and improve this team.
Just having a functioning and stable oline should make a huge difference. If Trip and Jenkins can push out Ellerbee and Wheeler, that would be an immense help.
If Taylor and Aikens push Grimes and Finnegan, that would be a plus as well.
The lack of a decent running back will be the focus of next years draft IMHO. Moreno and Miller are short term.

Great point but, the coaches need to get these guys ready to compete and play. We had 17 picks the last two years, with only RT, Martin, and Sturgis starting, and none playing well. Then we go to Martin in his second year not being ready to play. We really need to improve here.

That is going to be the biggest question heading into training camp this summer. If Miami can get some improvement from the 2013 draft class to the point, where several of the players are making impacts, it could mean a leap in production when the season starts. And if Miami gets a leap in production it could also mean much better play on the field Sunday afternoons!!!

This, and improving from within in RT. Wallace, the LB's, etc.

Our team isn't good enough to have only one pick before late second round. That's my summary of both drafts. It allows other teams to stay ahead of us or move ahead of us.

Last year we got rid of the 42nd pick in the Jordan trade, and this year we moved down from 50 to 63. That type of thing is easily rationalized at the time, but if you ignore specifics and cherish the big picture you'll avoid that type of thing, and in the long run you'll be better off.

It's preposterous for a team without a winning record to have its second pick at 54th or lower in two consecutive drafts.
