Since some guys insist Beck & Brees(Bulger) are similar, I would like to have your opionions on both QBs.

BTW, I am not satisfied if both are equal because Brees panned out after year 4, and I dont think we are so generous to endure those three year period.

My point is John Beck must be better than Brees to satisfy the fans, and are you guys think Beck is superior than rookie Brees, not current Brees ?

I didn't think Brees was such a bad QB even in his first few seasons. I think he was a player on a very bad team and that didn't help moreso than any real lacking on his part. He showed certain amounts of ability even when San Diego was losing so badly. It's funny how things turn round.

if beck becomes just a bit closer to what drew brees is now i would be more than satisfied

No John Beck must be better that Quinn to satisfy the fans!

...that old thing again? I've got some friends who are Browns fans and they're already saying Quinn's overrated. He's a product of the system and coaching. Look at the tape......how many times were his receivers reaching back for passes behind them? He's gonna get Winslow and Edwards jacked up and possibly on IR throwing like that. Accuracy is the key, and it appears our boy Beck has it! :D

There was nothing wrong with rookie Brees he just did not play much like Beck proabbly wont play. You do realize that when SanDiego drafted Brees they had the worst record in football and traded the number one overall pick that season. His first year starting was no bad for how the team was. I think Beck will be fine but truly think Brees was a better player coming out of college. Too bad we did not get to find out how good he was because we were too stupid to draft him. I truly believe Brees could have started as a rookie and been fairly decent especially with us.

My prediction is Beck will be good. In fact, good enough to forget all the Quinn comparisons. I don't think it will take him 4 years to have a breakout season. I'm guessing he will show steady progress starting late this season.

Wannestat would have ruined him at QB. His "it's not a sin to punt" offensive game plan was not QB friendly.

With Ricky's 1800 yard season a legitimate Qb could have made defenses respect our pass.

Possibly, but remember our O line wasn't very good and the QB pressure/play was the reason we ran the ball so much. Ricky made the line appear better than it actually was, IMO. Besides, RW "retired" the next season.

I agree Ginn/Beck must be better that Quinn. If Ginn gets injured the draft is a bust. If Beck fails the draft is a bust. What concerns me is that with a high draft pick next year are we passing on a potential franchince QB again. Guys remember if Mueller was such a good GM why was he sitting at ESPN for 2 years? Someone should have grabbed him, heck Spielman got grabbed in less then one year.

He played the next year but they were stacking the line even more. Fielder was a backup Qb at best and with a guy back there that had talent they would have to concentrate on the pass. Even though our line was not that good teams were not concerned with coming after the pass as much because they knew Fielder could not hurt them. Norv Turner was our OC so we were running a similar offense to what we will now.

I also spoke with a NFL DT who said it doesn't matter what QB we have. First concern is who is our LT and will the OL mesh in time. That might be too much for Beck

You get the point about RW retiring no matter when it was... Without him being there Brees' development would have suffered greatly.
However, I do agree that Brees would have been a better option than Fiedler, no matter what the RB situation.

'nough said.
I agree 100%. Hopefully, Beck will erase all the bad memories: Fiedler thru Harrington. Brees and Quinn.
