i was bored so i wanted to see what receivers did at the beggining of there careers if they where top ten draft picks.. i didnt make this a thread on purpose i was sort of putting in on word to look at myself but i figured maybe someone else wants to see... Obviously thinking about Ted Ginn was what brought this to mind.

Receivers picked top 10 of the draft..

peter warrick 2000 1st year had 592 yards 2nd had 667 yards

plaxico burress 2000 First year had 454 yds.. 2nd had 1008 yards

Torry holt 99 first year had 786 yards 2nd had 1198 yards

David boston 99 first year had 473 yards 2nd had 1156 yards

David Terrell 01 first year had 415 yards 2nd had 150 yards

Koren Robinson 01 first year had 536 yards 2nd had 1240

charles rogers 03 first year had 242 yards 2nd had 0 yards

andre johnson 03 first year had 946 yards 2nd had 1142

Larry fitzgerald 04 first year had 740 yards 2nd had 1409

Roy williams 04 first year had 817 yards 2nd had 647

Reggie williams04first year had 268 2nd had 445..

Braylon edwards 05 first year had 512 2nd had 884

Troy williamson 05 first year had 372 2nd had 475

mike williams05 first year had 350 yards 2nd had 99

Calvin johnson06 first year had 756 yards 2nd had 1331

Tedd ginn jr 06 first year had 420 yards 2nd had 790 yards

The people who ended up to be bust it seems like they where bad there first 2 years.. Ted ginn is similar to Peter Warrick(scary) and Braylon Edwards(verdict still out on him)

i hope when Henne gets in there we can get ginn the ball down field
Ginn is more suited for deep passed. This year he caught about as many balls as Bess and Cam, and while those two had about the same amount of yards, Ginn had at least 100 more.

Ginn Runs the Fastest 10 yard dash on the dolphins, if he cant get open in the first ten yards than its not really anyone else's fault. Ginn is more of a deep threat yes but he isn't more suited for deep balls than either camarillo or bess he just possesses more speed to get separated. if he had Bess's feel for coverage he would be unstoppable

Keeping in mind that Ginn had absolutely no control over at which position in the draft he was selected and the utter disaster the Cameron regime was ... I tend to give him a mulligan for his rookie year and have chosen to start basing my opinion of him as of this past year.

IMO, he progressed nicely and I saw enough (albiet he still needs to work hard) of his abilities to feel good about his future production.

I have looked at this several time in the past two years myself and listed similar stats in other threads. I still say and I will to the end you have to wait three years to let a young receiver develop. It would also be nice to have a person that could throw that deep ball 60 yards down field.

If Ginn ain't got it after this season experiment over pull the plug!!!!

Until then let him develop.

For all you grammar police I used ain’t for affect.

Ted Ginn had more yards in his first 2 years combined than Reggie Wayne and Steve Smith had in their first 2 years combined.

And:

Donald Driver
2nd year = 322 yards

Santana Moss
2nd year = 433 yards

Lee Evans
2nd year = 743 yards

Roddy White
2nd year = 506 yards

Derrick Mason
2nd year = 333 yards

Bernard Berrian
2nd year - 246 yards

Hines Ward
2nd year = 638 yards

Wes Welker
2nd year = 687 yards

Rod Smith
2nd year = 237 yards ( had a 1600 yard season and eight 1000+ yard seasons afterwards)

Reggie Wayne
2nd year = 716 yards

And there's more... Most of those guys listed there were once considered top 5 and top 10 receivers in the NFL.. Some still are..... And most of them had over 1000 yard seasons in their 3rd year or later. A majority of them eventually became Pro Bowlers and/or All-Pro's.

I agree. Wayne and Smith also had established WRs that defenses had to key in on (Marvin Harrison and Mushin Muhammad) where as Ginn was the guy being double teamed constantly here.

link?? No way Ginn has the fastest 10 on the team. He has a long stride and it takes longer for him to get up to speed. Armstrong would kill him in a 10 yard dash. JMO but I would have to see it with my own two eyes to believe otherwise.

Why do you suggest "pulling the plug" on a good player after 3 years? This makes absolutely no sense??? It's not like he has been a bad player or struggled.

Actually, I heard the opposite. Ginn takes some time (not much, though) to get to top speed. Heard this when comparing him to Bess. I think the comparison was for kickoff and punt returns. Bess was supposed to get off to a quicker start. Having said all of that, I'd much rather see Ginn get another shot at KO and punt duties. And don't give up on him so soon.

Even if it were true that Ginn has the fasted 10 yard dash time, you still don't know what you are evaluating.

Getting off the line of scrimmage during press coverage/bump n' run has nothing to do with speed. It is technique.
