I couldn't help seeing the comparisons between this Dolphins team and the 2000 Patriots team. Both teams were/are dealing with the arrival of a new coaching staff, and were in an obvious rebuilding situation.
2000 Patriots:
Record: 5-11
Points fielded: 276
Points allowed: 338
Turnover ratio: -2
Finished: 4th in AFC East
2007 Dolphins
Record 1-15
Points fielded: 267
Points allowed: 437
Turnover ratio: -7
Obviously, there is a large margin of difference between the points allowed, but I would attribute that to the fact that many of the players on the team had given up due to the awful record and hopelessness of the season. Remarkably, both teams were/are now being build around a Parcells style architecture, which leads one to believe: Can lightning strike twice? I don't know if Tony Sparano is the next Belechick, but he sure has impressed me so far.
Also, it wouldn't be the first time a rookie quarterback from Michigan led a team to the Super Bowl.
Your thoughts?
