Are we allowed any at this point? I don't care for the location just wondering if we are able to snag any extra picks for the lost free agents and does picking up Porter negate being awarded them?

(First post on the site..have been a lurker for about 4 years. Dolphins fan for 22 years and am excited to see changes in the program. Good or bad they are changes instead of watching another stagnant off season.)

Porter would only count against next season's compensatory picks, and no we won't have in for this upcoming draft.

are you absolutely sure? I remember thinking we had the opportunity for one because of Saban, but I don't know if that ever panned out.

Welcome Spartan! I'm with you on enjoying finally seeing some movement. I screamed three years ago when Wayne exstended Wanny's contract instead of firing him on the first day of the OS. None of my bosses were that generous.

Coaches have zero affect on compensatory picks, and even if they did it would go like this:

We lost 1 head coach,
We hired 1 head coach,
Equaling to a difference of 0 compensatory picks.

I don't know why you feel the need to make an argument (that isn't even close to the formula used by the NFL) that's intended to make me look like a moron, when you can't even distinguish affect/effect. All you had to say was the first part of your sentence.

Well this is the formula I was using, so actually I don't think what I said was that far off.

COMPENSATORY DRAFT PICKS: Compensation awarded by the league to teams who lost more UFAs than they signed. Compensation is in the form of extra draft picks added to the end of rounds three through seven. The quantity of picks is equivalent to the difference of UFAs signed to UFAs lost. For example, if a team loses 4 UFAs and signs 1 UFA, they will receive three Compensatory Selections. The value of the picks is determined by the difference of the contracts signed by the players lost and those acquired. The highest possible compensatory pick is the 31st of the third round (91st overall). If a team has signed an equal number or more UFAs than it lost, no "Compensatory Picks" are awarded.

By the way, I wasn't make any argument, just telling you like it was.

So I'm sorry for using the wrong letter on very similar words, you got me there.

Hahaha...are you serious? You really didn't know the difference? I'll let you in on another 6th grade English secret...there's a difference between to and too.

I hear that show are you smarter than a 5th grader is doing well...maybe you should give it a whirl.

I have never understood why people get so nit picky in forums about spelling and what not...But seriously we are all Dolphin fans and we are here to talk about the Dolphins if you feel the need to bicker it would be nice if you would do it via PM's...Or face to face fist fighting, and if that is the case please tell me time and location and ill be there...

But back to the subject of the thread...Compensatory Picks have always confused me...I think the pick used to draft Maurice Clarett (sorry if i offended anyone if the spelling isnt correct) may have been a compensatory pick (i could be wrong, but know the Broncos did get a 3rd rounder a few years back)...and i looked back and the Broncos where a playoff team and i looked at the free agents they lost and thought...Why the hell would they be given that pick???...To me it seems like an inexact science...For example how does some formula show exactly how much more/or less the lose of Ahmad Green effects the Packers compared to the Dolphins loosing Welker, or the Bills loosing Clement??? I mean would the Bills get the pick because Clement made more money and is probally the best player of he other three?? Or do the Packers because they have no one to Replace Green...Or do the Dolphins because we lost Welker right when he is starting to play his best football???

I think because of this inexact science Comp. picks should be eliminated...
