I wanted to look at this secondary from the idea that they're going to play Minkah Fitzpatrick as a true free safety (which we've heard that's exactly what they intend to do).

I got to thinking about this because of two things:

1.) The lack of a complementary safety throughout Reshad's 8-year career and,

2.) What Suh did to Cam Wake's career.

Not only have the second safeties on this team been lackluster, we've invested almost nothing into the position.

So I wrote up the type of impact Minkah could have just by simply being an elite player next to Reshad.

As usual, GIFs, data, scouting reports, all inside.

More than just a box safety and run support specialist, Jonesis a capable robber and short-area cover-guy. A trusty free safety allows Jones more range to freelance within the scheme and make the plays that has endeared the Dolphins’ fan-base to the eight-year veteran.

I thought Louis Delmar was a nice compliment but outside of his short stay here not much else done to free up Jones over the years . Clemon was ok I guess but nothing special.

Thanks for sharing guy :thumbsup

Jones has never been All Pro. Both Pro Bowl nods were also as a alternate.

What was weird about Clemons was that after he left here, he was given a short stint for the Texans (I believe) and hasn't played since.

I thought IAQ was a decent pairing with Jones, but his career ended on a freak injury.

2.) What Suh did to Cam Wake's career.
This is an excellent in-depth look at Jones' and Minkah's skill sets - well done. However, I'm not sure that we can say what Suh did for Wake's career, tbh. I mean, Wake has always made his living rushing from wide off the left, and teams stop him by doubling him with the TE or chipping him with the RB. Suh, in the meantime often got doubled by the C and G. The big problem for both of them was the lack of production on the other side to force the protection that way. The RDE and the RT were often single blocked effectively. I think Wake would've been helped more if he had a bookend rusher on the other side, although it's true that occasionally Suh's interior pressure helped him get a clean up sack. Jmo.

Good point. Wake was helped more when OV was on the other side than from what Suh brought to the table after he left as a free agent IMO.
Would have loved to kept him and had all three in the line up but that price tag was ridiculous

Minkah was such a dominant force in 2016 that you could see offenses get stuck in headlights in 2017 when he starts moving around. He recognizes and reacts like a gunshot. Smashing through screen plays, breaking up deep balls and telegraphing a pick six like he called the play.

Amongst these shiny new QBs acquired within our division, he will feast!

Delmas was perfect next to him. IAQ was pretty good too. Too bad they both got injured . Minkah is better than both I think. Or will be.

Yeah I still can’t believe how much flak we got for not matching that insane deal

OV got overpaid even more than Landry imo. When player's and their Agents make crazy demands there's only so much a team can do.

biggest problem i have with what happened in the OV situation is Tannenbaum should have been negotiating with him in 2015 when we could have gotten him back for $8m a season. i think that colossal screw up is why we have seen them jump the gun and overpay guys like Alonso and McDonald.

Then how is he going to push his negative agenda and drag every positive statement in to the gutter? I mean he has to educate the rest of us on how horrible this team is and how useless each member of it is. That can't be done if you're going to be inserting logical thought in to the discussion.....
