This title is pretty accurate but this is a category I am very curious about. Does anyone know what Dan Marino's actual weight was while he was playing? He was ooficially listed at 215 by the Phins. Coming out o fPitt, he was reported at 220. Other places have him posted at 225 and a display at the Pro football hall of Fame (I believe a display on the class of '83), has him listed at 248. I have never bought the 215 pounds weight. marino was pretty thick when he was with the Phins. Either the 215 is false or marino carried his weight worse than anyone. The 248 MAY be legit. He alsways looked much heavier than 230 to me (even without pads).

On another note, Larry Csonka was always listed at 230 - 235. I have read that the Dolphins always weighed him during summe workouts at the end of practice (after he had lost 15-20 pounds of water weight). He was much closer to 250 or 260 but the Phins didn't want him listed that heavy (because he was heavier than some linemen at the time). They were concerned that he would look "fat" (which is strange b/c Csonka was a rock). Now, teams don't care so much. Jerome Bettis was listed at 250 for Pittsburgh (I always thought that weight was too low as well).

I think I recall Marino once saying that he prefers to play at a weight between 220-225. But, Im not completely sure that I recall correctly what he said.

Thanks. I'm surprised someone actually answered without a "who cares". Marino was great (The only other QB I may take ahead of him was Elway, IMHO) qand my all-time fave player. I wa sjust curious since I have seen so many discrepancies (and the obviously incorrect 215lbs)

Hey, Im glad to talk Marino anytime. Greatest football player of all time. I wish he were around lately to NOT TOLERATE the incompetence of some of the players and coaches around here lately.

I know what you mean. He was a warrior. I rmemeber hearing a JIm Mandich audio clip of Marino, "It's all about the pumper, baby, and he's got one the size of a football." I still wonder how he would hav edone in the Dolphins front office (had he stayed).

I still have my Marino poster from 1990 (It dated 1989) by Sports Illustrated. It's still on the cardboard and still in the cellophane. I got it for Christmas in 5th grade and never opened it (I displayed it as-is) because I was afraid of it getting ruined. In stoarge, I also still hav emy Dan Marino caricature shirt from when I was in elementary school (along with my marino SLU's).

One thing I hav ealways wondered (and never could get a definite answer on) was how far Marino could throw a ball. He had a very strong arm (You have to in order to throw it the style he did ...which is the style I copied as a youngster and used throughout high school) but I don't know if he could throw for pure distance as well as Elway, Favre, Testeverde, etc (Peyton Manning is very much like Marino in that regard). The furthest I ever saw marino throw was 60-some yards in a QB challenge.

It's a shame the Dolphins never put a defense (or running game) around him until very late in his career. the Killer B's led the NFL in fewest points allowed from 1981 - 83. By 1984 (when Marino went from being great to becoming the greatest ever), they stunk. Mimai had a legit shot at the Super Bowl (If only they had a defense) in 1985, 1990, 1992, 1994. In 1996 they were loaded but just fell apart.

Dont forget that 93 team. Its a shame....I think that team had all the goods, or at least enough on D that Marino could win a title with it. But, that was the achilles tendon injury year though. They kept winning with Mitchell's avg QBing skills, and then towards the end of the year the defense got eaten up with injuries and they lost 5 straight to end the season and finish 9-7. That offense was great though, and the D was solid before everyone got injured.

I didn't forget about 1993 (also the year Shula got 325). I don't know if that team was as good as the others. the Giants game with 27 missed tackles was awful (along with Steve Deberg getting busted open and having blood red mix with the aqua and coral of his jersey). Offerdahl (could have been an all-time Dolphins great had he stayed healthy), troy Vincent, and others were lost to injury and down the team went. I still remember coming home from Sunday evening church to see Drew Bledsoe's bomb knock them out of the playoffs in the last game of the season. the funny thing about that year was that I would have been overjoyed to see Miami win the Super Bowl that season. However, it would have been a little bittersweet since Marino was on the sidelines.
