First part of an eventual five part series. A deep, DEEP film dive on Tannehill. This isn't to prove that he's awesome or that he sucks, it's just a compilation of every throw he made (charting catchable balls), discussing his strengths and weaknesses (with GIFs for evidence) and advanced metrics.

Even Tannehill’s volume numbers suggest prowess in this area:

Percentage of throws from play action: 15.4%

50/75 (65.8%), 792 yards, 6 TDs, 1 INT

Passer rating: 121.2 (2nd in the NFL)

Thanks for the Post...I like him and Think he has done well... as well as gotten better over time in spite of the Coaching staff he has had to put up with...I just hope he can come back from the Knee problem...

Thats my only concern....the knee.

The arm is golden.

I can definitely admit Tannehill is solid utilizing play action. That's his strength. That's definitely an aspect of the game where the eye test matches the numbers.

All the more reason trading Jay Ajayi was stupid as ****.

no but his pocket presence and decision making make him expendable

The decision making is above average and I would even say his pocket presence was average, not great, but not overly poor either

He struggled at improvising and he really showed a lack of natural instinct during the early part of his career. A lot of inconsistency as well.

Less than a year with Adam Gase, I saw leaps and bounds in this area, something I did not believe I would see, definitely not that quick, and that improvement made me a big believer in Adam Gase and just the overall work ethic of Ryan Tannehill.

You can sit up here and live in the past in regards to him and maybe the knee injury derails his career . . . But that guy in the Arizona game and during that stretch in 2016 in which we were like 7-1 . . . that guy was an absolute threat to take AFC lunch money in the immediate future. Maybe not in 2016 because our defense was terrible and we still were tinkering with the offensive line but he showed everything you could dream of when he was drafted number 8 overall.

Todd McShay's pre-draft debate with Skip "Clueless" is still gold.

"I think when it is all said and done, he ends up as a top 10, top 12 type of QB."

"If I tell you that in three from now your going to have a good starting QB, five years from now he is going to be a top 10 QB, would you take him?"

year 3 - 2014 - good starting QB
year 5 - 2016 - 12th in passer rating

Pretty god damn good projection from McShay.

He was also 28th in passing attempts, so he hardly had a similar volume to other quarterbacks in the league.
