Comprehensive offseason plan — The Dolphins roster will look drastically different

AJ Dillon is going to be interesting to see going forward. He ran a 4.59 40 as a freshman at 239 lbs. He is now listed at 6'-0" 250 lbs. If he can duplicate that time at the combine he will be a hot commodity. I'm guessing he will try and trim down so he will run faster. At 6' and 239 he is similar to LeVeon Bell coming out. (another guy I wanted the Dolphins to draft back in 2013)
 
I'd be very surprised if they spent anywhere close to that amount in free agency. I think this year is all about the draft and trying to find more of those role player/depth types. I could see them going after a one big signing if they thought it was a truly transcendent player that could be the foundation of a defense....like Ngakoue. But its hard to justify shelling out that much cash for a team without a QB. Historically big free agent signings live up to their contract about as often as draft picks, so you have to assume that 60% of those signings won't offer a good return on investment.

Senior Bowl was a useless game for his weaknesses. No blitzes allowed and that's where he struggles. Pointless.

The Jones cut is pretty self explanatory. I think the Albert Wilson contract is too rich for what he offers. He'd be worth about half that on the open market.

Biegel, Ford and Sieler showed more than enough to be brought back. Harris has potential and Haack, while not the greatest punter, has shown enough to stick around too.

Aikens brings veteran leadership to the special teams unit and can play in a pinch. John Jenkins played much better than expected and earned himself a spot in the rotation.

Pick 5: Tua Tagovailoa, QB - Offers the most upside of any QB not named Joe Burrow, but health is by far his biggest concern.

Pick 18: Josh Jones, LT - Offers everything you want in a left tackle. Will need some refinement in terms of technique but he offers a high-upside player that can anchor the LT position for many years.

Pick 26: Xavier McKinney, S - My favorite safety in the class. He's an explosive athlete. He's lined up almost everywhere on the field. He's a multi-faceted player who can cover, blitz and tackle.

Pick 39: Zack Moss, RB - The running back that few people are talking about, but after JK Dobbins, offers the most upside IMO.

Pick 56: Bradlee Anae, EDGE - Had a great showing at the senior bowl and may not even last until this selection now. Offers skills as both a rusher and as a linebacker.

Pick 70: Darnay Holmes, CB - Another player who played pretty well at the senior bowl. Not a sure-fire day 1 starter but enough upside and talent to get on the field as a rookie.

Pick 142: James Proche, WR - A do-it-all receiver that won't wow you with athleticism but can be reliable.

Pick 153: Yasir Durant, iOL

I count 32-33 returning players. I don't see that as much more 'drastic' than other teams.
Depending on scheme, I can see 7 returning starters on O, 8 on D. Again, not drastic. That said, upgrading only the OL would be drastic change on O

That is correct. I can't see spending big money on FA running backs. Lots of talent in this draft and I think Laird and Gaskin are young and trending in the right direction.

Just going through it in my mind, I don't see it.

Probably closer to 5 and 6, and that's a stretch.

For what you are saying to happen, means we missed horribly with both FA, and the draft.

We arent catching anyone napping next season, and the schedule is, arguably, tougher. To go in with mostly the same personnel would be 2 steps back.

Again, depending on scheme and using the OP's list - Davis, DVP, Williams, Ford, Gesicki, RF, Cox. Personally, I don't see Moss as a day 1 starter and a 2nd OL starter from '19 wouldn't surprise me.
 
I applaud the effort I would just suggest not spending much on corner since we can get a lot out of anybody at the position and instead sign Yannick.

I guess it depends how you are counting.

Although a lot of different players were starters at different points in the season, you can't count them all as starters for comparison purposes, IMO.

MG was not really a 16 game starter, and neither was Ford. In any case, Parker, Williams, Hurns, Ford can't all be "starters".

As far as the O-line, you may have Kilgore, and possibly Dieter starting, or maybe neither starts.

All I'm saying is if you are not upgrading several positions, we did a lot of missing in the offseason.
