There wasn't too much excitement when the hiring first went down, but that has obviously changed. And we sure missed him last night.

It was no surprise to me to see him taking a veteran defense and getting the most out of hungry players. I still think that you'll be 9-7, 10-6 at best this year. Mostly b/c of the offense.

This guy is one of the organized people you will ever know. He was meant to be a pro coach from the getgo. He can be stubborn, as are other FB coaches at any level. With the amount of competition these days, you can't win em all and outcoach the other at the same time.

He's definitely a mold of the Patriots coach. You don't see any me-me players, no one complaining while being a back-up. As you noticed, he doens't like being questioned that much. The offense can be a little conservative at times, but that's playing into the defense's hands. If you don't have a balanced team, it's hard to win the big one.

I'd say within 4 to 5 years, after he gets "his" players, you'll have that Super Bowl, or at least have made it there. good luck and enjoy

Thanks for the comments, I agree, he's going to be a great coach for us. But you're off with the offensive being conservative. If anything, our O has been aggressive. We've thrown more often than we've run (more likely due to our O line still gelling with the run blocking), and we're taking downfield shots and hitting a few. It seems as though Saban has entrusted the offensive play calling and strategy to Scott Linehan, and has gone out of his way to tell the press that we are not, repeat not, going to play conservative offensive ball for any reason. I like what I see so far offensively.

4 to 5 years - what are you a jets fan? What are you talking about? No team in the NFL spends 4 to 5 years waiting on a coach. Unless it is that clown in New York. C'mon dude - pretty much every prognosticator and know it all fan like yourself gave the Dolphins a 4 and 12 year again this season. Looks like EVERYBODY is on the learning curve. We will be 25 million under cap with a second draft under our belt. Expect Miami to be dancing at the end of the BIG dance next year. This season we will win the East and ride deep into the playoffs! And by the way Belicheck called Saban for advice not the other way around.

4 to 5 years? That's an eternity this day in the NFL. We are already defeating playoff teams, and if anything our offense is not conservative enough. Frerotte has thrown over 30 times in all three games thus far. Are we going to the SB this year, hardly. But could we make a push next year? Yeah, if we continue to play the way we have thus far. I could see us taking a step back next year with a rookie QB, but we will be contenders in 2-3 years no question IMO.

Probably a Patsy fan who jumped on board with all the LSU players picked up by Belliichick.

I could honestly see us taking a QB in the draft and let him learn the system on the side lines with Frerotte playing again for us next year. He is really making the most of this opportunity so far and he'd be good for a young QB to learn from. I can see a similar situation as that of Cincinnati's carson Palmer.

I would not underestimate our offense this year. We are currently the 15th best offense in the NFL. This ties for the best offense ranking in the past 5+ years (tying 2002). Here is the link to NFL.com:

Once Ricky returns, I expect the offense to improve even further.

Good point...HAMMER IT HOME!! As good as Saban is, has any LSU fan imagined what he could do with TWO star powered RBs in the backfield?

Dang guys, take it easy on the man!

The guy came here with a positive post!
Thanks for the input LSU fan.

There is a clear difference in the approach to games, scheme and effort levels of the players under Saban.
We got a steal bringing him here.

I agree with the others though on the Super Bowl time frame. If they do well in FA next year and draft some rookies that can fill their positions admirably like they have this year, we could compete as soon as next year IMO.
If not year 3 will be the year that Saban will feel the pressure of fan and media expectation for a championship run.

you didn't add into the equation....

For the next couple of years, it's going to be Indy, Pitt., and maybe New Eng. ruling the roost. No one is going to beat those teams rite now. Every team loses dominance, but until they do...... Anyhow I expect Miami to be in that place, just right now.
I don't recall Miami being there in 20 years, so don't get too impatient.

BTW, i was a Miami fan when i was in the 3rd grade, and still have that ugly jacket you would buy at Sears, with all of the colors.

Doesn't matter -- Like I've posted about Saban numerous times. His game plan is to win the game. If he feels that Gus needs to throw the ball 55 times because that's what the opponent will give him, then that's the way he will go with. Of course, every coach will tell you that he wants to be balanced and that's the only way you win championships, yada yada yada. Take what they give you and put your players in a position to win is all that matters.

Let me tell ya this - LSU was a little conservative in certain games and they threw it all over the field certain games. Every game has a well thought out offensive plan and changes will be made throughout the game. I would almost guarantee you Linehan is the hardest working asst. coach in the NFL. He's working with Saban, so they probably have an all nighter before it's issued to the offense on Wednesday.

Fellas, ya'll are done with the Wanny era - there will be no generic bs on the offense or defense side of the ball anymore. Thank Wayne, because he made his best decision since blockbuster. Anyway, as a Tigerfan I'm disappointed, as a Dolfan, I'm estatic, because we'll be watching one of the best football traditions rise to glory again.

Sorry to beat this home, but I'm still saying 8-8 (hope I'm wrong), but next year playoffs for sure and in year three everyone will know what date they have the Dolphins on the schedule.

that's great! i had the jacket and the bookbag and the hat and gloves... it was crazy. saban has been a great addition to a team in need of a blood transfusion.

I'm still holding out hope for this year. I think we're deserving of a superbowl trophy every year. After us beating Denver and Carolina I don't feel that's homerish at all!
