Knock on him coming out of college was his accuracy. Almost everyone doubted this pick. Coach Rizzi saw something in him he can work with. 50 yarder and game winner 47 harder (no doubt). Good job Sanders and Rizzi.
It was awesome that he raised his hands in celebration right after he kicked it before it went through the uprights.. like as soon as it left his foot he knew it was good
Gotta give Sanders some love! Good thread OP. It is a good sign that he was successful in such a clutch moment.....hopefully more of that to come in the future.
I liked sanders better than that Joseph guy from the get go. I like how gase doesn’t try those long fgs with Sanders early. Missing too many of these early in a K’s career can ruin them.
Sanders has really relaxed and slowed down his first step from early in preseason. That was the only thing screwing up his mechanics and therefore accuracy.
Kind of logical for a rookie free agent to rush his first kicks in NFL live action.
I have to say our special teams coaches are superb. Even if mechanics are flawed early they are soon fixed. Recent years might be the longest stretch of excellent special teams play I can remember in franchise history, or at least since the early '70s when Scott and Morris and Hubert Ginn were excellent as return men and Curtis Johnson and Lloyd Mumphord a terrific duo coming off the edge to block kicks.
Rizzi is an excellent Special Teams Coach. Coming up with a new kicker is not easy, but Rizzi knew exactly what he's looking for. Like many others on here, we were unsure what we had in Jason Sanders, but he got the job done when it counted. This was a terrific team win.
I like Rizzi a lot more now that I don't have to see him every week up in the face of the head coach giving out advice. He never struck me as particularly bright in that setting, although obviously he knows what he is doing within his specialty
I'm no expert, but the ball just seems to explode off his foot. Watching his kicks and comparing ball flight and speed with some other kickers yesterday, it was easy to see the difference. Kid has some power in his leg. He's having a really nice start to his career.
