I know there was a thread last week or so on this but since we are getting down to the wire I'm wondering if there is any new news. Based on this year's performance there are some guys we need to keep around for awhile.
Goodman - what a major improvement he has been. Big strides. Anyone know his contract status? Definite keeper.
WAllen - beast at DB - how many years left for him?
Carey - he got beat a couple times yesterday but is still solid and still young. Seems like a no brainer.
Camarillo - what his contract status? Definite guy to have on your team - hate to lose him like Welker down the road
YBell - big time safety but no hands. Tough to pay big bucks for someone who doesn't make game changing plays. He is a very solid safety and I think we should keep him but he is not elite because of the big plays IMO.

Anyone else?

contract extensions = Carey, Crowder, Bell and camarillo.

Will Allen is getting a bit old. I would rather take that money and add some more to get Nmandi/gamble and let Jason Allen start. Since Goodman is cheap we should keep him.

Carey, Bell, Camarillo, Crowder and Goodman all expire after this season. W. Allen still has one more season with us. I'm not sure who the FO is going to extend, but I think it would be a good time right now to at least start with someone like Bell or Carey. For some reason though, I really feel that Carey will not get re-signed. Just a gut feeling though.

I dont think Carey will be back because I thinnk he is going to want top tackle money and he is not a top RT (IMO)

Based on this my order of priority would be:

1) Goodman - guy looks legit now as a #2 or #3
2) Camarillo - should be cheap still and is very dependable
3) Bell - big force back there - just not a big play maker
4) Carey - I hope they keep him to give stability but he is not dominant. Because of big money wants I'm sure he might be a wait and see
100) Crowder - wouldn't want him back - makes no big plays - serviceable - Spragan kind of guy - okay for mid money but will get bigger pay day on open market.

the only player on that list I expect to get the going is Goodman:foundout:....he is WAY to inconsistant:unsure:,and even when he is playing well its basically=Will Allen at his worst:unsure:,so that doesnt say a lot:shakeno:...not to mention he dropped probably 5 INTs in the last 5 games alone:(,not including the total 8:(,so I really cant see him here next year:shakeno:....

Crowder and CareyI feel the same wayabout. PAy them slightly above average money for thier position and I'm fine with keeping them.

If Goodman continues to play like he did yesterday he may be getting an extension too. I have to add Penny may need to be considered on an extension, we definetly dont want him going into next year on the last year of his contract because if he continues to play like this someone is going to offer him some big bucks

now is a TERRIBLE...I repeat TERRIBLE time ot re-sign guys. What has signing guys during the season, according to history and common sense? These guys have played great the last 5 games, and for what????CONTRACT YEAR....You give them the money now, theres no telling if they'll keep palying well...cuase hey,THEY GOT THEIR MONEY IN INK....The VERY earliest they should give a contract extention is when we are completely out of playoff consideration...like if we lose 3 more times in the nest 4-5 games.....but....

until we are out of contention, the money is on suspension;)

but if we do wait until after the season then what is the incentive for these guys to resign before testing free agency??

it's not a one-way street....you can't just consider what is better for the franchise, you have to consider what the player will do in their own best interest. If we don't work to get some of these guys under contract now, they will be able to test the open market and we not be able to resign them or may have to severely overpay.

I'm concerned that Belicheat'll try to tender the same kind of sleazy geographic condition-loaded bonus offer for Camarillo that he tried with Welker before ending up doing the right thing- if we don't resign him before season's end. If he admired Wes from afar, he's also probably salivating over Greg. However, given that, holiday dinners for The Tuna's son-in-law, Scott Pioli, would not be so comfortable if this were to happen...but I wouldn't put it past NE to try.

EASY way to solve that problem....offer him the first round tender. or the 1st and third round tender. We could have done the same thing with Wes.

the difference in cost truly isn't that much (about 500k maybe), so if you don't want to lose a guy, just give the high tender. I actually wasn't that upset getting a second for Welker....but after seeing him blow up for a division rival, I don't want to see it happen again. tender him high and no one signs him. If they do, we get a 1st round pick....and as much as everyone here love Camarillo at the moment, and as much as the organization seems to like him, I think they'd have to take a 1st round pick for him if it came to that.

1. OT Vernon Carey

2. S Yeremiah Bell

3. WR Greg Camarillo

4. LB Channing Crowder

I think these are probably the Top 4 players that need to get new contracts.
