Just wondering if anyone can tell me how the NBA does their contracts. I have repeatedly heard the NFL should mimic this...Any care to shed some light???

Every pick has a set sloted salary.

Thanks for the info!

Pick 1 is worth x, pick 2 is worth y and pick 3 is worth z regardless of anything? We should change so its closer to this format. No negotiating and players already know what they are worth before the draft.

The salaries are allotted by the NBA and are set based on draft position. I believe they are three year contracts with an option for a 4th year. It keeps rookie salaries from skyrocketing and prevents holdouts because the rookie contract is already dictated to both parties.

There has been talk about the NFL adapting some type of rookie pay scale for some time but I don't see it happening anytime in the near future.

If you want to see what the NBA is paying their rookies this year and next, check this out.
