not sure if this has been posted, but i love mad dog and wanted to share:

And Jim Mandich, a tight end on that '72 Dolphins team, said on his WQAM talk show Monday that during a pregame montage before Sunday's broadcast, the Patriots came across as ``awfully smug, like they're entitled . . . like they're overconfident, and the football gods don't smile on teams like that.''

But Mandich said he feels ''empathy'' for the Patriots ``because they carry that with them for a lifetime. That one you wake up in a cold sweat 15 years from now. You were on the brink of immortality. . . . Eighteen meaningless wins that don't amount to jack spit. They will be known as the greatest team never to win the Super Bowl.''

I agree with this 100%. This Pats team had an arrogance that just made people hate them. Karma rode in and bit them on the arse.

The fans up in NE were smug allll year long....sickening being up here... they thought they had the superbowl won.....why play the game, just hand it over attitude. Mandich was right on the money.... the smug-ness has gone away! I can breathe easier now! lol These fans are devasted still....not like "oh we had a great season"... they are stunned....

Stunned???? They need to be ashamed!!! I can't believe they agreed with the arrogance the players showed.

If a Phins QB had the attitude that Brady had, I would be ashamed.

Think about it this way. If I am a coach and have a team like the Pats this year, I would not have run up the score like they did. I would have secured the win and let it go. BUT...NO!!!! Let's run up the score and show the league more and more of our playbook. Let's go for it on every 4th down. Let's not settle for field goals!

The less plays they had to run, the less game tape teams had to use to prepare. They emptied their tank before they reached the playoffs. It shows in the close games that they played towards the end of the season.

amen to that...being that i live 20 minutes from gillette...it was the greatest feeling since the heat and marlins won titles to see the pats lose the super bowl...my friends may hate me now...but meh...whatever...i can find new ones...but im a loyal fin fan til the end

I guess Mad Dog's a better person than me because I have no sympathy what so ever for the Patriots. It was hubris of the most extreme degree and they got what they deserved.

He also said in the last day or so, perhaps not in this report, but he said that "he and the other members of the '72 Fins felt privileged to be a part of the Undefeated team" which to me is much more profound than these other statements...

And there you go. I guess they finally found out the difference between "privileges" and "rights".

Bill Belicheat had it coming to him, there is one thing being confident and taking small chances especially in tight games but **** head over there constantly pushed the envelope. He did this because of his arrogance, what coach goes for it on 4th and 13 when you can kick a 45 yarded inside a DOME! He gets what he deserves and im actually glad they went on and won every regular season game and then go on to lose the SB, it must be like salt in a open wound for the rest of there lives HAHAHAHAHA. Bunch of classless losers that team is.

I think they had a right to be confident, maybe not smug though. But thats what happens when you win so much and the media is constantly on them about how good they are.

Obviously it got to their heads, in the end they got what they deserved. Oh and I like the comment on my sig!

ya but being over confident at the superbowl when the game is within a touchdown you go for it???!!....stupid coaching on his part....im glad he did go for it tho lol

The 1998 Vikings have got to be psyched. They went 15-1. No longer the best team to not win a Super Bowl.

Funny thing about that.....Randy Moss was apart of both them teams.....maybe he needs to choke a lil more on the grass....and a little less in the big games?
