Schlesinger was on NFL Sirius today. Was a decent interview, but Tim Ryan and Adam Schein kept turning the interview into a Detroit Lion love-fest.

He seemed really enthused about playing with Miami. He alluded to the fact that he knows he was brought in for veteran leadership, but admitted he is not a "rah rah" type of player. He likes to lead (quite literally) by example. He admits to having an affinity for hitting opposing LBs!

Schlesinger mentioned that he likes Cam's offense and how it helped send Lorenzo Neal to the Pro Bowl. I got the impression he wants to make it to Hawaii as a starter, as he has made it in the past, but only as an alternate. He hated leaving Detroit, but Martz did not use him effectively. Schlesinger also noted on Ronnie's size. He said that Ronnie is pretty "quick-footed" for a big fella. He also mentioned that he and Ronnie have been working together exclusively for timing and how it is imperative to get that down for the season. He noted the differences between Ronnie and Lorenzo.

One funny thing he said was that he was bothered that he would not be blocking for Ricky this year. He said he would have enjoyed helping him and Ronnie rack up the yards. He also mentioned that the guys from Riddell have been working with him and the issues he has had the way helmets fit him. The issue was that the facemask would bloody his nose upon impact. There was no mention of his reputation of breaking facemasks.

He was asked about Trent, and said that Trent definitely knows the offense.

Leaving the interview, one could see how easygoing, but hardworking Schlesinger is. We definitely got a player. He is supremely enthusiastic about blocking for Ronnie this year and the potential of the running game in Cam's offense. I cannot wait to see him take on LBs!!!

Guy sounds like a bruiser! Maybe they should dig out Csonka's old helmet....I always loved the look of that old bull ring. Csonka had helmet problems early in his career, then he got the bull ring, and the rest was glorious history! Give him Zonk's old helmet! :D:D

I heard the interview as well. He seemed easy-going and blue-collar. I took interest in his comments on Joey blue-skies. He seemed to think they threw him to the wolves in Detroit and killed his confidence. His leadership fell way behind, but Cory wishes him the best. (much like an older brother)

He had some rather confirming comments about how bad Matt Millen is with dealing with overpaid undercontributing players.

He looks forward to hitting some linebackers and opening up some big holes for Ronnie Brown!! :ninja:

Really like this whole part. It really seems like Ronnie wants to improve his game this season. BTW Ronnie is in Arizona getting fit and working on his quickness. That was the place he was at before his comebine.Defitnetly good to read Ronnie is doing things to better his game.

Thanks for sharing that!
Hopefully if the Oline cant open up holes for Ronnie then Cory could jus hit everyone down so ronnie doesnt get tackled:lol:

schlesinger in my opinion is one of the best free agent signings of this off season.. this guy is TOUGH. after thomas, probably one of the toughest on the team.

Ive seen this guy play alot, seeing as i live close to detroit... he's a bigtime hard hitting fullback.. with decent hands. he's going to be awesome opening holes for brown... just demolishing linebackers... its going to be great to watch i think.

i heard a detroit radio interview not long after he left detroit for miami... he sounded genuinely upset about leaving detriot, but optimisic about moving to the phins... theres no doubt... this guy is an all out, nfl player. he;s going to really help this offence. we've needed a FB for a long time

After the draft all the hype was over the new rookie FB, the Juggernaut.

I also agree that "Anvil Head" is a great addition. I just hope he has plenty left after 12 years of banging his head into opposing LB's.

I would love to see him thrive in Coach Cam's offense and be a pro bowl starter.

Cant hurt the Juggernaut being mentored by a hardworking vet either.

With all the bloody noses and busted up facemasks it's a wonder Cory has not had any concussion issues.

With the advancements of football helmets it's strange that even with using his head as a battering ram he has those issues with the facemasks and bloddy noses.

IMO FB is an overlooked, under appreciated part of the offense. This position is everything from run blocker, blitz picker upper, runner, and receiver. When all is said and done this will be one of the most important pick-ups this year. Great to have this kind of talent and work ethic on the team to mentor the younger guys.

NOOOOO... no fixing the damned facemask problem until I have one...

I'm scared to research what they went for in Detroit, my wallet is already moaning.

you guys should make a fund for me and get me one to shut me up.. :kick:

I love this FA pickup. Sledge will impact this offense more than any other FA pickup next to Green. He will blast holes, carry in short yardage, but most importantly, will be open quite often in the flat as a last option for Trent.

Sledge will win many fans here, I cant wait to see our running game behind this guy.

I believe our running game will be improved mainly because of this player, not the O line we have...right that down.

It is nice to see that we have a elite fullback for the first time in long time. Can't wait to watch him bust open some holes for Ronnie...
