and hands them over to the QB coach....wish saban wouldve done the same weeeeeeks ago. why is it that saban is so straight forward about keeping 'his guys' whether its coaches or players...it seems he doesnt wanna admit hes wrong. thoughts??

It's an act of desperation by NY and he has Kevin Gilbright (sp), a proven OC in the league. Saban doesn't have anyone else on the staff that has ever called plays before. I know I know, they couldn't be any worse than MM.

MM is getting a much worse rep then hes deserving here so far. Im just going to put it like this. Every single play, that's ever been drawn up since the game was invented, is intended to score a touchdown. Every one. When these guys draw up the plays, their not meant for 3 yards, their meant to score.

Even a HB dive, if executed correctly, should score a touchdown. And thats what im getting at. Execution. If every play is executed right, its gonna work. I don't care what the play is, if the players all do what their supposed to, its going to work. Stop bashing the coordinators, start takin a look at the players. If MM calls a short out to chambers, he's expecting the oline to execute their blocks, the QB to execute on his throw, and the receiver to execute the catch.

Maybe this is the inner coach inside of me bleeding out, but every play is designed to work. If it doesnt work, its the players fault. All the coordinater does is call the play...

The answer is the General NFL forum

the question was *plays jeopardy theme*

where should this topic be moved!

haha I don't mind though I just noticed that..but, I guess not really ocnsidering the talk about Saban. I totally agree though..SABAN NEEDS to strip Mularky of his play-calling duties.

i totally agree with you. i never blame the coaches...the coaches arent the ones playing...its the PLAYERS.

You are right and you are also wrong. All plays are designed to work but if the coordinator is being predictable in his play calling...guess what. They're not going to always work. The coordinator also has to design and call plays that will work against certain defenses. If not, they won't work. The coordinator also has to know his team strengths and weaknesses as well as the other teams' strengths and weaknesses. You can say it's execution but as a defensive player, if I pick up on your tendacies, I can stop just about everything you try to run.
It's not just about execution but putting players in position so they can
execute the plays properly.

but but....thats what "execution" is.
but our coordinator isn't putting players in the best position to execute the plays properly. Just as it is said that every offensive play is designed to score (I don't believe that by the way), every defensive play called is designed to stop the offense from scoring. If they execute properly, more times than not they will succeed.

i agree with you. ANd i'd like to say in MM's defense, that he hasn't had any consistensy from any spot of the feild. We're going to start our 3rd QB this year on sunday, we've started two different runningbacks, our oline is inconsistent, and you can define our entire receiving core by the word 'inconsistent.'

So you make a great point, coordinators have to know the tendencies of their players. But MM's had different players at every spot on the field all season.

The one thing i disagree with you partually on though is this. If your a DE, and you know the plays coming at you, what advantage does that really give you over the tackle? If the Tackle executes his block, you can't make the play. You go in, the Tackle blocks you way in. You go out, the Tackle blocks you way out. Now i know this is different for linebackers, cause if they know the play then its probably never gonna work, but even if they did, i'd still expect the guard to execute his block.

If I know in certain situations you like to run a certain type of play, we can have the defense slant that way and hopefully close down any cutback lanes forcing the running back into the direction of the slant. Thereby stopping the play. If I know the play is coming right at me, the OT still doesn't know what I'm going to do. If I crash hard to the inside, I might be able to get to the spot before the tackle can properly execute his block and disrupt the play. Just watch Jason Taylor when it looks like he recognizes a play how quickly he tries to either get inside the tackle or around him.
It allows for more reaction and less reading when trying to stop a play.
