For Earth Below
The assumption in all of the playoff scenarios involving the Dolphins assumes that the Broncos will win the AFC West. A Chiefs win over the Seahawks today keeps the Chiefs within one game of the Broncos. And who do the Broncos play the week following the Dolphins? A Sunday night primetime game at Kansas City. And such a loss to KC puts the AFC West up for grabs. Whether the Broncos win or lose to the Dolphins, the AFC West leader will be determined by their game against the Chiefs.
I have no idea whether teams "look past" an opponent or whether the concept of a "trap game" exists, but I think the timing of the Dolphins game vs the Broncos couldn't be better. Plus I think the Chiefs can get to 10-6 even with losses to the Seahawks and Broncos, so I view the Dolphins competing for either the division or one remaining wildcard spot. So a Chiefs win today could cause the Broncos to "look past" the Dolphins and towards the Chiefs the following week.
