Something very interesting is happening over in Minnesota right now. The team got rid of Randy Moss in order to improve the defense and try and build the team around Daunte Culpepper. Everything was all roses and they couldn't talk enough about how GOOD Culpepper is.

And then Culpepper noticed how much they were building the team around him, noticed how much pressure they were putting on him by letting Linehan go and getting rid of Randy Moss and replacing him with a rookie Troy Williamson. And, he looked at their RB situation full of a bunch of guys who aren't stars. So, he threw a hissy-fit with the staff, threatened holdout, and forced them to beef up his contract so that he is paid commensurate with the top quarterbacks in the NFL. After all, the Vikings were talking him up so much about how he's the best, and they started stripping the offense under the guise of "building around Daunte" so why not?

Problem: The wheels are falling off on Daunte's game now that Scott Linehan isn't there anymore.

Now, Culpepper is VASTLY overpaid compared to the way he is playing, and until they clean house with the coaching staff this season there is really no hope in sight that things are going to get much better for Daunte.

There is a very REAL possibility that Daunte can never reach his potential again without a coordinator like Linehan, and a receiver like Moss. Even if that is not the case, there's a very real possibility that a lot of people begin thinking that way.

And, with a new coaching staff comes a serious possibility that the new regime has it out for Daunte, they don't want to pay a QB that kind of money, or they think he has always been overrated, etc.

So, a few years down the road, a damaged, broken, and CHEAP Daunte Culpepper could end up rejoining the coordinator that made him who he is in Miami.

Of course, by then Linehan could be a head coach. Actually, by then Linehan could be head coach of the Vikings LOL.

I'm just saying, very interesting things going on.

BTW I wonder when Matt Schaub becomes a FA because he looks good and it is easy to forget that in college he and Phil Rivers were neck and neck for a long time with both of them playing VERY similar to each other.

Think of it this way: Minnesota's "powerhouse" offense STARTED when Randy Moss was drafted, and ENDED when Randy Moss was traded, and has survived the likes of Randall Cunningham, Jeff George, Gus Frerotte, Todd Bouman, and Daunte Culpepper at quarterback while still performing at a high level.

Just looking at the situation that way is a very sharp criticism to the money being paid to Daunte.

As much as I think hes overrated, hes still much much better than any QB we have and probbly will get in FA. That said, can you imagine Culpepper and Chris Chambers? Culpepper with Ricky and Ronnie? Culpepper with a stellar defense? Culpepper reunited with Linehan? The possibilies are endless.

I suspect that when the Vikes clean house this offseason, they'll look very seriously at Linehan for their brand new HC.

Due becaue of money and other reasons.......Dante will never be in Miami but I would love to see it with his big body, rambling feet and gun for an arm....

Daunte is staying where he is! And, he's too expensive anyway.

That would be nuts. I'd love for it to happen, but for it to we'd probably have to give up someone big.

Mostly I like to imagine Culpepper reunited with Linehan.

Miami has a VERY simplistic offense, IMO. It is one of the most uncomplicated offenses in the NFL I believe. Randy Moss was right when he made a comment on how night and day Linehan's offense is with Norv Turner's offense in terms of difficulty and complexity. It has already been said that sometimes our QBs look like they are staring down their receivers because Linehan has them focusing on halves of the field instead of the whole field. He doesn't have his QBs check down to like 4 different reads. Culpepper may not succeed until he's in an offense like that again.

Like Ricky...no way am I giving up the Ricky and Ronnie show. Plus, if he were somehow let go which the vikes would be taking a huge cap hit, we would have to sign him to an even bigger contract and be forced to purge our roster. We have lots of cap room but I dont think we'll have enough to keep some of our elite guys and have Daunte. Good pipe dream though.

That's exactly right!

Not true. He doesn't manage the game well and he's careless with the football. I've been saying for years that he is the most over rated QB in the league. Moss (and early on Cris Carter) made him look better than he was. What we are seeing now is the real Culpepper.

Not sure if Shaub can excell in anything but the West Coast Offense.
