Could it be possible that the team released Culpepper to free up more space in the cap, to offer better contracts to the unsigned rookies? I have no basis behind this, just speculation, but is it a possibilty?

I think, but am not sure, that they set aside a portion ahead of time for the new rookies. Who knows.

I think it looked like it was going to cause more trouble than it was worth and maybe they want to focus to be on Ginn and the team instead of Cpep going into camp.

it helps but was it the deciding factor? no, i dont think so. i think they realized that they werent going to get anything for culpepper anyways so why keep him. they also could clear up room to sign someone like peter kendall when/if he gets released.

No I think Cam and co. planned ahead of time to get their own guy they thought best to run their offense. Whether it was draft or free agency. Plus Culpepper had not shown he was healthy enough. Although maybe having a guy like Ginn in offense helps Culpepper if he was still here. I think he just wasn't in the plans to run the offense.

The answer is NO. The team is set aside an amount in the "rookie pool" to sign their rookies. They don't need to free up anything, because they already had the amount the Dolphins' rookie pool number called for.

I thought that was a possibility but I was not certain.

He was likely released so it wouldn't cause a mess during training camp. Culpecker planned on calling numerous Dolphins players as witnesses which means they would have had to take time away from valuable practice time. He got really lucky with the initial judge needing to postpone the court date because his flight was cancelled. Pushing the date so far ahead only benefitted Daunte. He got his wish and the Dolphins got nothing. Oh well...

Trent Green is the reason Culpepper was released. It has nothing to with unsigned rookies. Simple as that.

one had nothing to do with the other

The Dolphins would've done this earlier if the Trent Green deal had got done earlier and they could go through their own process of trying to trade a QB instead outright releasing him. Culpepper got screwed, through no fault of the organization, by the business of the sport.

The Dolphins would've even considered keeping him and paying his salary while he sits on the bench.....as insurance.

Ginn's 07 cap number won't be that big if he signs for 6 or 7 years and any monetary concession's the Dolphins have to make to get this done, won't make a big difference when its prorated over 6 or 7 years.

So one definately had nothing to do with the other.

U never knows..but that sounds pretty good to me
